from todays Sunday Times by Eithne Shortall

Cable TV customers who are using illegal decoders to access more than 130 channels for a one off payment of €110 are being targetted by UPC ireland, the countrys cable tv provider.

UPC has refused to disclose how much revenue it is losing to illegal operators who are bypassing its monthly fee of "€32" but it is believed to be in the millions of euros.

In a move aimed at making viewing uncomfortable for the owners of dodgy boxes, UPC, the parent company of Chorus NTL, is hitting back by scrambling network codes to block out illegal viewers.

    SNIP

UPC said it is devising a strategy to leave the boxes inoperative.

    SNIP

The decoders which are sold at markets and over the internet for between €110 and €250. This compares with UPC's €384 annual charge.

    SNIP

There has been a growth of online forums that advise on their use and post new codes when the old ones have been scrambled.

    SNIP

However, UPC spokeswoman Anna-Maria Barry said the firm is devising a plan to block out the boxes indefinitely."WE will be working with our encryption solution providers to introduce another level of security to render these boxes permanently innoperative", she said.

"We monitor a lot of internet forums. We know that the users are getting scared, and rightly so.

Whenever you hear of Upc making announcements that boxes are going to become inoperable you can sleep easy knowing your channels will be there in the morning.
    If I may quote:
"We monitor a lot of internet forums. We know that the users are getting scared, and rightly so."

There tactics are based on fear, now that they see their latest attempt to block the boxes has failed.

Sorry in advance if this is a stupid question, but there seem to be 2 firmware updates showing - one says Kuro 2 and the other says Kuro 3 - does it make a difference which one is used ?
    I have a Eurovo Maxv 2008.
Also see in today's paper that UPC are going to war!!!

    Hi Lads,
I have read alot of the links for eurovox firmware updates however some seem to conflict with others. As I am new to this I really don't have a breeze. Can anyone please advise me of the the best firmware to download for the eurovox max red for N*L Dublin, also do I need a new .bin file, my current file is the following: EUROVOX_MAX_RED_BOX_19_02_07.bin or is this included in the Dnupman file?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I was wondering if anyone would be able to help me. I downloaded the firmware from the link provided in the forum and put it onto the box, after this i completed a power scan which automatically then carried out an auto scan and i could see the list of channels that was found but once the box saved the data and exited the screen it comes up "channel not currently available" and there is 0000 on the display.
Does anyone know if there is anything i can do to resolve this problem?
All your help is greatly appreciated,
    Thanks.

After you updated the b0x , did you do a factory default and do a fresh scan ?

Firmware was releases 2 weeks ago for red, blue and black boxes.
    Would not work for Chorus.
Software released yesterday for black boxes, works with ntl and chorus.
Codes update nuch quicker with this software.
To get it look at the first page in this thread.
new software for red and blue boxes out tomorrow for chorus and ntl.
    does this answer your question.

Has anybody had any problems with the new Eurovox Max V Software 18/04/08 freezing & pixalating ? I am on N** in Dublin & I am having quite a few problems. If we dont let the software writers know that its not performing 100% than they cant fix it.
