everything on my desktop disappeared

everything on my desktop is gone, how do i get it back?

 

Set your computer back to an earlier time ( system restore) b/4 desktop ran away.

 

I cant do that.(it is my work computer)any other suggestions

 

I dont know if I put it clearly enough. the all the files are there its just the screen that is blank and I want to get all the shortcuts and stuff back on it. thanks

 

What were you doing when they vanished? Be very specific

 

This may sound really silly but you never know unless you ask, did you try right clicking the desktop and going Arrange Icons By>Show desktop icons?

 

yeah that didnt work. And I didnt do anything someone was messing around when i was not there.
