Nope, I use a hardware fan controller to keep them that low. The only fan I can't control is that in my power supply, which can reach up to 1600rpm. However, it's far from an effective way of cooling the case.

    Controller 1: Sunbeam Rheobus
    Channel 1: Rear Silverstone FM121: 450rpm
    Channel 2: Front Silverstone FM121: 450rpm
Channel 3: Top Hiper 80mm: Usually off (it was when I took those temps)
    Channel 4: Side Nexus D12S-L12 120mm: 600rpm
    Controller 2: Akasa Fancontrol Jr
    Channel 1: Bottom Noctua NH-8F: 650rpm
Channel 2: External Scythe S-Flex (variable) - this cools me, it's blu-tacked to the desk!
Channel 3: Scythe Kaze White 120mm CPU fan: 600rpm

    And there you have it.

I take it that the cpu fan has the ability to go higher?

If I install the fan I like for it to be at max 24/7 :)

The FM121s can go up to 2400rpm (but they're hellishly loud at that speed), the Nexus can go up to 1000, the Scythe ones are you best bet at 1600rpm max.

Im just gonna use a generic 12cm fan of which I have another in my case.. pushes 80CFM at ~1600rpm 35dba or something which I guess isn't too bad.

Atm I haven't got the little converters to put my case fans on my Zalman controller but I have

Antec Tricool 12cm x2 on 2000rpm at front
Antec Tricool 12cm x1 on 2000rpm at rear
12cm side case fan at 2000rpm
20cm Antec Tricool on top 800rpm.
    Vantec Spectrum 2x9cm 5000rpm

    That and the PSU.
    This biatch is loud.

Eh, noise has never been an issue for me. I let my case fans and CPU cooler run full blast 24/7. It gives me frosty temps for my OC'd E6600. 35~37*C idle(seen it down to 32*C at a dead idle), maybe 38~40*C when surfing around and running music, IM, etc. And I've never topped 55*c playing Oblivion or encoding movies.

I don't even have my speakers on half the time because my sister complains about it even when I'm not using them(go figure).

I use a pair of Alienware Ozma 7 headphones that do the trick nicely. My grandpa got them for me :)

As good as that may seem, I used to run my Freezer 7 Pro at 70% fan speed (much quieter) and still only pulled a max of 55C load, and as you know I run my case fans at a really low speed. I appreciate your CPU's clocked higher than mine, but since it was so much higher to start with, the thermal output shouldn't be any higher. If anything, it should be lower. Don't mean to brag at all, but you don't even need to put up with that level of noise to achieve those temps.

No bragging as far as I can see :p

Point taken though. That's why I intend on getting high-end air cooling when I get my E6750. Maybe the Thermalright Ultra-120?(probably)

It'll be fun to see if I can break 3.6GHz with comfortable temps.

I just got my Ultra 120, idling at room temp (25 degrees) and loading at about 40 :) hehe.

    Hehe, good aren't they?
I did some EXTENSIVE research before buying mine, and came to conclusion that the Ultra 120 tops the air cooling charts more often than any other cooler. Now I can see why.

Ever heard any stories of wear on the motherboard having a huge thing like that hanging off it? I mean, it's pretty secure, but when I pull up on it a little bit, theres SOME give like its sagging and needs to be more stable.

Hmm, I haven't heard of any problems like that, all I can say is be careful whenever you're carrying your PC around.

OK so now how do I overclock this bitch properly lol. I am at 1.4V vcore currently (don't know what stock is, it's on auto) and am running 3.0ghz stable. If I go to even 3.2 I get hangs when playing games. Does this mean I need to step up vcore a bit more?

Perhaps, but I've only set 1.45Vcore and I've made it to 3Ghz from an original 1.8.
What's your memory and northbridge voltage?

Memory is 2.35 at 1066mhz. It auto went up when I enabled EPP.

    Ntune:

    CPU 1.4v
    Memory 2.35v
    FSB 1.4v
HT nforce spp <-> mcp 1.2v
    nforce spp 1.4v
    nforce mcp 1.5v
    auxilary 1.5v

I run my 650 chipset at 1.55V, so you'd probably be safe by upping yours a small amount. I had to do that in order to get my overclock, but beware, the chipset can get VERY hot if you up the voltage. I'm sure your system can handle it, but make sure there's enough airflow down there.

Yeah there's a bit of airflow going on in this sucker. So if I up the vcore a nudge or two, and the chipset, I should hit say.. 3.4 comfortably?
