    Well I've run it through about every scenario I can think of. With 3 different versions of CCE, Movie Only, No Compression, Decrypted with and without structure protection, and in File and ISO mode. I couldn't get an error.

    HC is an excellent encoder, although slower than CCE. The difference between DVD-RB and most other products is that it uses actual MPEG-2 encoders (just like the authoring house did originally) to do the transformation of the DVD and then reauthors it. Most DVD copying software use something called "within-the-compressed-domain" transcoding. They take the original, modify some parameters, and rewrite. While that works, and it fits, it can miss a lot of important considerations and sacrifice quality. Even a marginal encoder can usually produce better quality than transcoders on challenging sources.

    But there is a cost for the additional quality. Analyzing the source, redistributing the bits, and reencoding takes longer than transcoding. This is largely due to the fact that MPEG uses a concept called an asymmetric codec. The majority of the work is done on the encoding side in order to reduce the need for processor power on playback.

    Hi, could someone please answer to this?
    I have a question about setting DVD-RB, AVS Options! I have an Athlon XP 2600+ and always checked AudioDub(BlankClip())....so is that right or should I uncheck it? Does AudioDub(BlankClip()) have an influence on quality,using CCE SP 2.66 ?

    @jerry77

    BlankClip() has no influence on quality at all. It is there as a way to circumvent a bug that exists on some versions of CCE when used with Athlon processors related to audio processing. As is true with all DVD-RB parameters, it is usually best to just leave it set to its default state.

    Sorry for the late reply, I used Decrypter in file mode, movie only, CCE Basic.

    @Ppower

    Could you send you REBUILDER.INI file to dvd-rb@dvd-rb.com so I can make sure my setup is exactly the same as yours?

    Thanks.

    I was backing up the Woodsman and I got a run-time error: Path/file name error in Rebuilder 0.92. I am using CCE Basic 2.70, AVISynth 2.5, and DVD Decrypter 3.5.4. This is the first time I tried to use RB 0.92. It was a batch encode with 4 movies and the first 3 came out fine.

    You've made an error with the Woodsman in your batch setup, RB needs to have a location to dump the encode. Check your working path and try again.

    Hi,

    I am having problems backing up a dvd. I am following the guide from here --> http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/dvd_rebuilder_tutorial.cfm

    I did the following
    * The source dvd is not encrypted so I copied it manually from the dvd
    * Then followed the settings as said in above tutorial

    The original movie size is ~7.01GB but after the processing I end up with a movie whose size is ~2.3G and the video has alot of green patches. I am not sure what am I doing wrong.

    Here is my RB ini file

    [Options]
    SkinVersion=3
    OneClick=1
    NoWarn=1
    idct7Opt=1
    CCE=2
    HalfD1=00000
    Convert_16_9=00000
    DisableInterlace=00000
    EncoderMinimized=1
    Completed=2
    ReduceOpt=2
    [Paths]
    MPEG2DEC=D:\Program Files\DVD-Ripping\DVD-RBv089Free\DGDecode.dll
    Source=D:\MOVIE-FROM-SOURCE\
    Working=E:\MOVIE-OUTPUT\
    Output=E:\MOVIE-OUTPUT\
    CCEBasic=D:\Program Files\DVD-Ripping\Cinema Craft Encoder Basic\cct2.exe
    [Audio]
    Selected=1111
    [Subpictures]
    Selected=1
    [CCEOptions]
    VBR_bias=25
    Quality_prec=16
    eclPasses=2
    OPV=0

    Following are the versions of programms I am using
    *DVD-RB v0.89
    *Cinema Craft Encoder Basic v2.69.01.04.Retail
    *AviSynth 2.5
    *DGDecode 1.1.0

    I also tried extracting the movie from source using DVDShrink with out any encoding. But still get the same result.

    I am sure my settings in DVD-RB are wrong. Can somebody help me ?

    Thanks
    Mekatoka

    What version are you using now?

    I'm still using v2.69.01.10. I've heard too many bug reports when using v2.70.xx.xx with DVD-RB. Based in large part comments in this thread:

    http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=94332

    Who knows, maybe this rev will cure all ails...

    @dlc2000

    There seems to be a handful of computers that have problems with CCE v2.70. I've done lots and lots using 2.70 without issue (since the high-end sensitivity was addressed). I did 4 movies overnight last night using CCE Basic v2.70.1.04 with no problems.

    I don't think anyone has found exactly what is the common factor among those who are having issues with CCE v2.70. The only thing that is positively known is that it goes away the minute you step back to a previous version.

    I'd say very probably that if you do an encode or two without having an issue with CCE 2.70 -- you will never have a problem.

    I am using DVDDecrypt, CCE, DVD-RB Pro(.92)Beta and Nero. This is more of an issue than a problem. I am having no problems backing up, encoding and burning the results. However one small issue, when I put the burnt DVD into a standalone player it always plays back with the subtitles ON by default. Of course I can turn the subs off with the DVD's remote but I wonder why this is happening and if there is something I can do to avoid it(other than leaving out the subs from the original).

    What kind of backup are you making?
    Full Backup?
    Movie only?
    Movie + Menus (blanked extras)?
    Movie + Menus + "Slideshow" Extras?
    I never noticed anything like that!?!?

    Check the original. I've seen several discs that have subtitles on by default. Unless it is a Movie-Only encode, the state of the subtitles are not changed from that originally authored.
