It may be a good idea to take all the relevant programs out and re-install them from scratch and start all over again.

I recomend installing DVDrebuilder into a named folder on C: to keep confusion about the location to a minimum. Make sure to make a new short cut. Use the latest rebuilder.

Thx for the advice re RB/CCE settings - I will continue using 16. While I've got you - I hope this question is not too far off topic. After RB/CCE have done their wonderful job, we have to burn. In my case I can use either
    #1 Nero
#2 Copy2DVD (left over from my DVD2One days)
    #3 ImgTool/DVD Decrypter
Noticing that #3 would involve some translation ie VIDEO_TS to ISO to VIDEO_TS, I am lead to ponder. Referring to quality, does all burning software produce the same end result?

I know I'm not Vurbal but I'd like to answer. I use Nero most of the time but on occasion Nero reports an error stating that proceeding might result in a movie that might not be playable. In such situations I use CopyToDvd (also from my DVD2one days) and it's given me a working movie everytime.

In my experience, under normal conditions there shouldn't be any difference between different burning software, but when your system has problems there may be. When I first started backing up DVDs (late 2002) I had been using Nero 5.5.x for my CD burning. Unfortunately there were many people who had problems with 5.5 and DVD burning, and I decided not to even mess with it. Since I didn't have any other commercial programs (or interest in buying them) I decided to use DVD Decrypter (with ImgTool) to burn. This worked great but since I was tired of making images (after ripping with Decrypter and stripping with IfoEdit) I got a copy of RecordNow Max 4.5, which continues to be my program of choice. After a couple of months I started getting bad burns, and I eventually determined that it was a Windows problem (which I never resolved because a lightning strike took out the PC). During my testing, I found that, even burning at 1x (which was the only way I could get a good burn) DVD Decrypter often gave me bad discs, but RecordNow always did the job.

Now all of that is probably not very helpful, but it's as good an answer as I can give. I wouldn't base your opinion of Decrypter on that evidence since I was sure Windows was the culprit of the initial problems (there were other problems that suggested this). Plus it was many updates back. I haven't ever used anything besides Decrypter or RecordNow to burn with so I can't comment on the other software. I will say that if I wanted to use Decrypter now, I'd probably just use Shrink to make the image (with no compression of course) and then have it automatically use Decrypter to burn.

I've only had that warning from Nero perhaps a little more than a dozen times but out of over 500 burns that's not bad. But on the one occassion that I ignored the warning I got a coaster so I burned the movie again but with CopyToDVD and it worked fine. It could be a coincident but then again maybe not.

Thx guys, food for thought. You are both talking about reliability of the burn which can be a problem. But what about the video/sound quality of the end result - is there a difference there?

No the sound you keep is the same on the backup as it was on the original.

The only thing the burning program could do to cause video problems is to make too many errors. In other words, with respect to the burning software they're the same thing.

You guys have been so helpful, may I ask you another question off topoic (It hasn't been answered in the Ripping section)
I have just converted to RB/CCE so my latest glitch was blamed initially on my new process. The problem is small sound dropouts, about as long as a scratch on an LP record. In the past I have suspected my media which is not the best (Princo $Aust 3.50) which does give the occasional coaster. So I ran the backup through DVDInfo Pro to check for read errors - there were none. I no longer have the original DVD but I had not erased the DVDDecrypter files from my HD. So I played these files with PowerDVD - lo and behold there was the problem. These files had been ripped with no errors. My question - is there a program out there that will analyze the decrypted files before I waste the hours consumed by RB/CCE?

Schaf1945 ... yes, the question is off topic...and one question usually leads to the next. Please help us keep this thread clean with only RB-CCE related issues. I would suggest you post your question in the DVD-R forum. I'll look for it and give you my thoughts. Thanks much.

    Hi guys!
First of all I must say that I have been using Rebuilder along with CCE SP for quite a while now (done approx. 30 backups) without a single glitch.

I would remain silent if it weren't for the latest backup I am trying to do. I try to backup a movie which has 2 VTSs and on the second one in the phase of creating segment 1 (segment 0 goes smoothly as well as entire VTS1 which is main movie) I keep getting the same error message form CCE: a pop-up window appears with he message "cce_encoding_init() failed:". After clicking OK (the only option) CCE shuts down and rebuilder continues with the next segment. BTW: I use 3 click method.

Has anyone encoutered this before? Dare I ask: has it been solved somwhere else already and I am just wasting your time?

Please let me know if you need any additional info (I am sure that you do but please tell me what exactly).

    Best regards,

    Erik

@gorangel ... no, I haven't tried AviSynth 2.5.5. I'm not using any plugins right now, and so I don't see much benefit in upgrading.

@gererik ... No, I don't recall this problem ever being discussed before. What version of CCE SP are you using? Also, how are you preparing the DVD to be encoded, and what is the DVD? There is also an information file in the Rebuilder folder. It would help if you posted it.

    Hi again!

    I am using:
    Rebuilder v.056
    CCE SP 2.66.01.07

The movie is: Pirates from the Carribean

For ripping I use DVD Shrink 3.1 where I choose audio tracks and subtitles I want and than rip the movie without any compression. Then I start DVD Rebuilder and use option Steal space from extras (50 %) and Half-D1 and Half-Space for Extras. For this movie I used 10 passes (yes I know, it is redicoulus but I have to see for my self the difference between 2 and 10 passes :)))

There is also another interesting thing with this movie: Rebuilder splitted VTS1 into 85 segments (I think this is quite a lot), for second VTS I dont know since the thing stops working at the segment 1 (V07000100002001) but from Rebulder.inf I conclude that there are only 3 segments.

Since there is so many segments also the Rebuilder.inf file is accordingly long. So I post here just the part around troubeled segment (a couple of them before and after). Hope this is enough. If not - let me know.

    And thanks for quick response!

    Regards,

    Erik

You have posted the log showing the segments rebuilder has the files broken down to in the D2VAVS folder. The number of segments can be high. The number of files in a completed Video_TS folder will not be the same.

It would tell us a lot if you post your configuration settings from your Rebuilder folder. Just to see how you have it set up. SP requires a different setup than CCE Basic which is the normal setup in the guide.
