actually I don't think I ever used 0.64a ... last one I used was a few versions before that. Probably somewhere in the 0.5??

LOL. We can get you back up to par but you're going to have to visit us once in a while and ssay hi.

Just did my first Dual Layer with my new Plex 716 using 2.4X media that burned at 4X. And it's playing just fine. Dual Layer media is still too expensive (mine were $5.6o each.

lol ... yea I'll probably need a re-education on what setting to use.

I also got my new PX 716 last week, and still have not installed it. It comes with 1 dual layer disc, and I just don't know which movie would be worth of using it.

They gave me a single layer disc with mine (newegg) but I purchased a 5 pack with a free DVDRW for $29.99 with a $5.00 rebate. I decided to try the first greater than 8 gig moive I bought, "Manchurian Candidate (8.16 gigs)." I used a 2.4X Ridata disc but you know PLex's speed boosts, it burned at 4X without a hitch.

Did you get an OEM drive? cause I bought mine from newegg as well. It was a retail box which also included the black bezel.

I just got done watching Manchurian Candidate ... good movie, good choice.

Perhaps I'll have to install it tomorrow. With dual layer is there a need for rebuilder? In your opinion?

No I got a retail boxed unit, I even saved the box. Oh well things happen! The copy is perfect. I'm curious what's your disc's manufacturer's ID?

    Hey All!

I did a search for AVISynth on the web and it looks like that application is now in the version 2.XX range. However, I remember Rebuilder did not work correctly with some versions of this product. What is the current safest version of avisynth to use?

Any 2.5x version should work. I was using 2.54 when I first discovered DVD-RB and I upgraded to 2.55 (which I'm using now) shortly after it got out of beta.

    vurbal,

It looks like I will play follow the leader when it comes to AVISynth. I have been using 2.54 for several months and will update to 2.55 and see how DVD-RB preforms.

Too late... I'm already using Avisynth v2.56 and it's working flawlessly with RB/CCE. Also, I'm using the DGDecode plugin instead of the Mpeg2dec3dg. I recently added the new RB v.70 and it works great.

Yep, the old thread is getting a bit long for a read. Start a new one saying RB v.70 and beyond. That way they know it's the new stuff. Most of the old buffer problems have disappeared and usually the problems are now just bad setups or corrupted files.

I don't know what it was but v.69 was extremely slow for me, 2 hours on phase 1(normally 10 minutes),8 hours on phase 2 (normally 3 1/2 to 4 hours), and 2 hours on phase 3 (normally 20-25 minutes).

I thought it might have been my PC or my settings(i did all the stuff- defragged, checked DMA, RB settings, etc). I even thought it might be the movie because it was extremely large, over 53% compression but after I installed v.70 all is back to normal. Any ideas or did anyone else have this problem with v. 69?

BTW, I also wanted to get in one last post before the thread is shut down,LOL.

    Happy New Years everyone!

None whatsoever. It had to be a coincidence.

I have both versions running now and see little differnece in the speeds. I was experimenting with a couple of setup variations is why the 2 versions; nothing that would affect speed. Just hadn't deleted the older version yet.

    BigO,
Sometimes my RB/CCE setup starts acting funny; i.e. the file sizes come out wrong or times start seeming out of the norm. When unexplainable probs start popping up, I've found a clean install of all components is an easy cure. I suspect the problem is corrupted files from multiple changes to the system. I think the constant updating and upgrading gets to the setup.

Yeah, that happens to me from time to time with Nero, but I've never had it happen with RB. Thing is I just installed v.70 over v.69 as I always do and no problems with it.

I'm gonna try the same movie and see if it happens again. I won't need to go the entire 12 hours again, if the phase 1 takes 2 hours, I'll know it's the movie(the files were extremely large). It was after all, 53% compression. Also, it plays just fine, even tho it took forever to do it.

I think jdobbs is right, just a coincidence.

When you see a massive slowdown like that -- do a control-alt-delete and look at the task manager. I've found that sometimes Windows Media Player gets stuck in memory (usually after a failure of some sort) and steals all my processor time. You can kill it from within the task manager.
