    Thanx jdobbs, that sounds very plausible and makes sense. Next time it happens I'll do just that, I've already added it to my "bible" of valuable info :>)

    New version of DVD Decrypter was released just last night and perhaps I didn't notice it or not but the feature to rip the movie alone has been added. Has there been any problems thus far using this feature while encoding through DVD-RB. I would run a test myself but no DVDs worth ripping on this end.

    Decrypted A Beautiful Mind using the rip movie feature and ran into a hitch. It seems the ifo and bup files were somehow damaged after the encode was completed (DVD-RB). Still managed to write it to a disc using Shrink, so something to watch out for.

    I think DVD Decrypter just copies the IFO files when it does the PGC rip (which means they won't burn as-is and work) -- but... if you have IFOEDIT it can generate new IFOs for you from scratch (as long as you have the VOBs)!

    OK peoples, i have been searching all day (both here and doom9) and lots of people seem to be having the same problem as me and i have yet to see a solution to the problem. When i rebuild the dvd, the video_ts directory is always bigger than the original DVD. It always has been above 7 gig....not anywhere near the 4.5 gig that i need it to be.

    I am using the following
    DVD-Rebuilder .69 (i heard there was a problem with .69 and i tried .67 because that was suppose to be a fix for the problem but it didn't fix it). I followed the instructions in the guid exactly. This isn't a multiangle dvd.

    CSSSP 2.5 (Trial)
    Rebuilder.ini for .69
    [Paths]
    MPEG2DEC=C:\DVDPrograms\AviSynth 2.5\plugins\DGDecode.dll
    DECOMB=C:\DVDPrograms\AviSynth 2.5\plugins\Decomb521.dll
    Source=C:\DVD\KING_ARTHUR\VIDEO_TS\
    Working=C:\TRY\
    Output=C:\DVD\KING_ARTHUR\OUTPUT\
    CCENEW=C:\DVDPrograms\eec\EclCCE.exe
    [Options]
    EncoderMinimized=1
    LogFile=0
    NoWarn=1
    AdditionalOutput=1
    CCE=1
    Skin=Rockas Original
    Completed=2
    ReduceOpt=1
    [Setup]

    [Audio]
    Selected=1011111
    [CCEOptions]
    VBR_bias=25
    Quality_prec=16
    eclPasses=2

    What is causing the problem? Is it CSS SP, Is it DVD Rebuilder or is it something else. Im about to just throw my hands up and use DVD Shrink. I looked over scenartist but it looks very expensive since i don't see mention of the software company even mentioning a price on it..just locations where you can get it. When i tried to rebuild stuff in .67 here is the logging.

    CSSSP... Do you mean CCE SP? I still wonder if you have it set up properly. I'm sure you haven't been following the threads here at AD or you would be using the newer DGDecode plugin instead of the MPEGDEC. jdobbs said he just put in the Decomb plugin ability because of special requests. He said that one is only called for under special circumstances.

    The biggest problem most of us have seen is people trying to set up the SP trials and getting them to work properly. I wouldn't even want to try to write the convoluted steps of setting up the eclCCE to work the old trials and I hear some of the apps even changed across the versions since 2.5 SP.

    The best guide I've seen for setting up RB is the one done by Vurbal here at AD. Those SP trials are water marked and set up differently, so I'd say make the commitment for the CCE Basic and set up the app correctly up front. There are enough old hands here at AD to help get it set up properly if you have problems with the instructions or want to ask some questions about the newer aspects of setup with DGDECODE. It's only $58 US for the CCE Basic. Once you see how good it is, you can send jdobbs a donation as a token of appreciation and to get on the donors list for the latest RB releases.

    In the document text generated in the RB folder, it states CCE Basic is highly recommended. Instead of wasting time with a trial that is going to be troublesome as well as give a marked video, I'd advise getting the Basic if you want RB. If you want to do the cheap, get the DVD Shrink. Remember though, RB will give better encoding at higher compression levels where Shrink starts to falter. You can get the best with RB or play around with the others. Your choice, but the $58 for the Basic makes sense for us here at AD, or at least to the ones familiar with RB/CCE.

    That same movie took me 4 1/2 hours using CCE Basic with two passes and it came in at exactly 4.3. Phase 1 usually takes 11-12 minutes. Phase 2 usually takes 3-3 1/2 hours, Phase 3 usually takes 25-30 minutes. And while I'm not near the expert jdobbs or vurbal and some others are I did notice a couple of things from your post that differ from my setup.

    C:\DVDPrograms\AviSynth 2.5\plugins\DGDecode.dll should be your path to decoder

    For DECOMB=C:\DVDPrograms\AviSynth 2.5\plugins\Decomb521.dll, I have nothing at all, only the path to decoder and the path to CCE basic or CCE SP or Canopus procoder depending on which one you are using.

    CSSSP 2.5 (Trial)-are you talking about CCE SP? and if so I notice you are using a trial version. If you'll peruse this thread 80% of all RB/CCE problems arise from trial versions of CCE SP instead of using CCE Basic for 58.00. Even if it works you are left with a watermark.

    I also notice you did everything on one drive,C. Some have had problems til they switched drives like putting output folder and rebuild working path folder on 2 different drives, they were also having sizing issues BTW.

    It looks like that you were using output directory mode all on the same drive,C? As I said this has been known to screw up the program on other people's PCs(not all tho). I use 3 different drives to run RB/CCE, but 2 should suffice. I also notice you used improved movie quality taking space from extras, I don't think that would have caused any problems.

    It looks like your setup is a little off kilter and the fact you are using a trial version of CCE, that's where I'd guess the problem lies. Just the fact of using trial versions make it more apt for error and you have to add eclCCE to the mix and like I said, it seems everybody has problems when they just don't go ahead and get CCE basic.

    Others here are much more adept at dissecting these problems, wait til you get an intelligent answer,LOL.

    But, whatever you do, don't give up on RB/CCE. It is the best for high compression, bar none. Once set up correctly there isn't an easier app in the world to operate. Just hit "transcode", wait til finished, then burn.

    The old bear has nimble paws. LOL We must have been typing that one out at the same time BigO. It took you 25 min longer doing the old 1 button peck routine. LOL I will bow to the master though (wax on, wax off), as you are the Addict. ;) I probably had a headstart, because I'm not that fast myself.

    Guess we agree though, RB/CCE is tops for what it does.

    I noticed in the file you've chosen CCENEW for ECLCCE -- but you say you are using CCE V2.50.... they have different parameters. If you are truly using CCE 2.50 you should have used that pointer in the setup and also correctly set it under "CCE Options"

    My guess is that since you are using the wrong encoder selection, the output is being written as CBR -- making the filesize whatever it would come out to at a fixed rate of 6000Kbs.

    Are you actualy trying to be offensive?

    Rule of thumb when setting up DVD-RB or any software: Garbage in, garbage out.

    RTFM.

    If you are doing a "movie only" backup use DVD2DVD-R with CCE. I've never had a single problem with that program.

    Good luck

    If you're having a problem with RB/CCE make sure of your setup and that of others who've complained before making unfounded allegations. We're here to help anyone who is interested and forthcoming regarding their setup, including the versions of the apps they're/you're using. Putting the wrong bits together is a formula for failing.

    1Adonis4u

    If you're backing up a movie in PAL then you might just be right, but if you're backing up a NTSC movie and you haven't had a problem yet you will unless your setup is oriented toward NTSC.

    The DVD2DVD-R guide recommends that in order to correctly backup a movie in the NTSC format you'll need to use "DVDLab $79 or Scenarist NT to mux and author the DVD video files."

    http://www.davis28.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/Gudie/guide.html

    I've backed up movies with DVD2DVD-R using ifoEdit and a couple came out just fine but some also came out undersized by over a gig. For the NTSC format Rebuilder is a better solution and I have over a 140 movies to back that statement up. RB is an evolving app and as a result it is still referred to as a beta software.:)

    I have been doing NTCS movies for a long time using DVD2DVD-R and have never experienced under/oversized problems. As a precaution the setting "Secure" is chosen when it comes to output size which usually comes out to be about 4.32 gigs.

    As far as authoring, I have it set where DVD2DVD-R automatically authors the DVD using IfoEdit so this way no additional software is needed.

    Different programs work for different people so use whatever works for you!

    I agree different apps do work for different people but if you follow the link you'll see that ifoEdit is not recommended for backing up NTSC movies, you need DVD lab or Senarist to properly demux the sound tracks.

    If DVD-RB is properly configured it also never experiences oversizing/undersizing problems. I personally have tested over 800 different movies -- and unless you choose OPV (which has inherent predictability problems external to DVD-RB), it has never once oversized.

    IFOEDIT's muxing doesn't work with NTSC telecined sources.

    For those who don't like to configure the software themselves I would suggest downloading the self installing DVD-RB package available at http://www.dvd-rb.com. It is not managed by me -- but by Rockas, who also developed the installation package.
