    DrGreen,

I have not run into that problem with DVD-RB. However, I have had odd ripps with DVD Decryptor in the recent past. Try the following setting DVD Decryptor.

Goto Menu Item Tools --> Settings (General TAB)

Set the Structured Protection pull down menu item to AGRESSIVE. This helped me overcome some odd behavior with DVD-RB. Worst, case no change.

Backups of TV series based DVD's can be the most annoying of all.

Don't bother removing subtitles, they don't use enough space to make a difference.

Following up on Gnomex's recommendation, also try slowing your rip to as slow as your reader will allow.

Also check your RB audio settings, those you want to keep should be unchecked and those you don't want should be cecked.

    Thanks Gnomex and Sophocles,

The strange thing with the ripped folder thru decrypter is that I'm able to play it perfectly with PowerDVD and itlooks the same than the original (menu, audios, subs), so I was surprised that differences occurred after RB.
But can it be normally played while beeing different when processed with RB ?

You're right, I won't bother removing any subs in RB for TV series, but even when I left them all, RB gave me a movie with no ones...

What ripper did you use with DVDclone?
Since you didn't loose the sub titles using Clone then Rebuilder then DVDdecrypter changed something it shouldn't have. It could have been a structural protection missed be DVDdecrypter.
Make sure you used the latest decrypter.

I use Anydvd with DVDshrink to create an iso before I process the files through Rebuilder.

    64026402,

Actually, I used Decrypter with CloneDVD then RB. And before using RB for the first time, I had the 6 dvd processed with CloneDVD, keeping audio and subs I wanted, and everything was working perfectly, except QUALITY ! :) That's why I started using RB, but always from the same ripped files with Decrypter. So it's odd RB doesn't "see" some subs on several dvd...

I never used another program than Decrypter to rip, but I will try AnyDVD another time...

I am running DVD Rebuilder 0.72 (from installer 0.72(b)). Using either CCE 2.50 or 2.70 generates the following error message during the Phase I (Preparation):

    [bold]Run-time error '52':
    Bad file name or number[/bold]

This occurs whether (1) I simply rip the DVD to my hard drive using DVD Decrypter (all files) or using DVD Shrink (no compression) or (2) I rip with DVD Shrink (no compression) and run through DVD Remake.

I have read a number of on-line guide and have tried searching the forums. I apologize if I have missed a prior post/thread addressing this problem.

Below are (1) my most recent log and (2) my current rebuilder.ini file. If more information is needed, please ask.

    Sophocles,

Like most of us with any experience working with DVD-RB, we have seen the tool become much stronger backing up more and more DVD titles as time moves on.

However, DVD-RB is very picky when it comes to discs that were not ripped correctly. This could be removal of too much extra material using DVDRemake or just new copy protection methods that made there way onto the market. This issue was a constant problem with some of the discs I had using DVD-RB, but making a minor adjustmentment to Decryptor, seems to put the bulk of these problems in the past.

I can only remember one instance where a DVD ripped by DVD Decrypter failed with RB. But once is enough to suggest that it does happen. I ripped the same movie over with DVD Decrypter and it ran through RB without a hitch.

I've used the agressive feature in Decrypter with mixed results. The problem with some physical protections is that they ask your drive to drop from it's high ripping speed to 1 or 2 times instantly. That will often stop DVD Decrypter from completing the rip, and agressive settings won't work. Since I have two Plextor drives the 712 and the 716, the feature that I find most helpful is the enable speed read plextor.

I've found some DVD's with physcial protections but they're usually just in one "vob." I resolve this by deselecting the offending vob and then ripping the rest of the DVD at full tilt. Then I go into DVD Decrypter and set the rip speed to 1X (few DVD recorders will do that) and then successfully ripped the offending vob. I then copied it into the folder with the rest of the movie and then completed it without further difficulties.

Here's a somewhat similar situation and I don't find it troublesome. Ripped with DVDD with AnyDVD running in the background with "The Forgotten", used DVDD default settings in File mode. Toward the end I had to enter OK to override and complete the rip. Warning along the lines "failed to patch..." Some bogus structural info got passed along in the ripped files, part of the structural encryption. RB successfully encoded the files. CopyToDVD would not burn. However, Nero has the option to override warnings and burn. Knowing the structural encryption was there, overriding and doing the burn only left some bogus info in that was in the original. The backup plays perfect but retains a touch of the original encryption (which players aren't bothered with).

DVD Decryptor works well for the most part. However, on my PX-708 it seemed to have limitations on some titles. I received no warning or errors, just a failed rebuild at the end. setting the aggressive structured protection mode seems to work. No problems to report as of yet? It will be interesting the next time I purchase a new movie.

FWIW, reinstalling from installer 0.72(d) seems to have solved my problem. Meanwhile, I've found the rebuilder dedicated forum at doom9.org.

You should have also found the dedicated forum at http://www.dvdrebuilder.com and several others besides doom9. Seems Rebuilder is becoming more popular all the time.

    @ Brobear

That link you suggested seems to have the latest DGMPGDec version which is 1.2.0 RC5. Know of any changes from the final release and the recently announced version?

Well... there's also a message of jdobbs about the use of the latest releases of DGMPGDec... if you used my installer stick to the version it installed or at least make a backup of it before use any of the RC versions so you can replace it if anything goes wrong... of course you can alway use the installer again :)

The latest version of CCE SP which is 2.70.02 is a bit on the odd side. While trying to encode I manually have to hit encode for each of the VTS segments. Anyone else experience the same problem when using this version?

Since it is a trial, on DVD-RB you have to select the CCE SP Trial. Not CCE Basic or CCE New.
