    Hi all,

I'm a laptop user and as such it would be more economical for me to get an external DVD-rw drive. I'm familiar with the Pioneer A05 internal one, but I can pick up an external 106 drive for a pretty good price.

My question: Are the external drives just as reliable as the internal ones? Does going through USB 2.0 create coasters?

    Thanks in advance!

Most "External" Drive are actualy the same drive as the internal drive, but in an external casing. I used a Sony 500AX as external on wifes mac with, and then eventually put it in internally on my PC. Both worked fine for me. I have read some people having problems with firmware upgrades on some externals, so make sure you research the drive you are buying.
