Would you guys tell me when patching, what speeds should i set it to for all? And how would i set it region free?
I think i'm not understanding something... when i start up DVDShrink on my LiteOn 16P9S it says 37 min left. I let it run long enough to see it levels out at 3700 kb/s, is it really gonna take 37 min like it says or does it progressively get faster and faster thus ripping a backup in the 10-15 minute timeframe everyone else seems to be reporting??
pete did u flash your drive with the modded firmware? Those speeds sound like your running on the stock firmware still. Mine will start at around 8,000KB/s and climes to more than 13,000KB/s for most disks.
depends on the speed of your computer i guess. I set all the speeds to the highest allowed by the flashing program and mine works fine. Whats the specs on your comp?
i also set mine to max speed for all media types, havent had no problems yet. but everyones machine has different capabilites. i tried a couple speeds vs. "default" before setting max when i was flashing my lite-on. my specs: amd 3200 (939)w/asus a8v dlx 2.0 neo power 480w. psu 2gigs pc3200 400mhz mushkin ddr ram lite-on dvd rom nec 3540 200&250 WD 8mb @7200rpm nvidia 256mb w/475mhz core clock. so hope these figures give you an idea for settings.. thanx for all the 411 everyone, X
Miami84, ur specs are pretty much the same as mine. I say max out the settings and let er rip! Its definately a fast drive!
i guess i did?? here's what i did: 1-i decompressed the firmware file named "16P9S.FS07-FS09" 2-then went into the FS09 folder 3-ran the "16P9S.FS09.patcher" file 4-entered the max speed fpr each media type 5-disabled SMART-X 6-ran the file "16P9S.FS09.patched" 7-selected my LiteOn SOHD-16P9S DVD drive as the target 8-clicked on "update" 9-watched the pretty animations to show the progress of the flash 10-was prompted to reboot and did did i miss something? should i have chosen something diferently? Thanks for all your help guys!
seems like you took the write steps. how are your ripping speeds now, are they better i hope. if it wasnt for A/D i would of never done mine. obtw, if you still are trying to trace your steps just read this thread i think everyone gave their 2 cents on it... =P good luck, X
O snap. I really messed this one up! What happen was i installed linux, and decided I did not really like it, so i reinstalled xp again. But i thought that if i reformated like i did i would have to patch again. So luckily i had copied the patcher to a cd, i chose the speeds and then click the patch. Then it was taking forever, so i thought the cd tray should not have a cd in it i could not take it out it just froze, so i shut down my computer, and i now i can not see my d drive! I really messed this one up, lmao. The patcher disc is still in the drive, i can not get it out. What should i do. My startup also freezes a little take real long. Am i going to have to buy a new drive again. Thank god only 20 dollars. Or could i so way patch the d drive? Please help, if i reformat with the e drive. Should things go back to normal or once you mess with the patches it will say like that even if you reformat???
This is great. I've been thinking of building a new system and knowing the fastest ripper around is good info. However, no-one has mentioned the actual speeds. Therefore i don't know if mine is fast or slow compare to you guys. I have an NEC and it rips at about 6.7x with DVD-D. Can you guys post some of your rip speeds? I'm leaning heavily towards the plextor, but the lite-on sure has a nice price tag. Thanks yall.
rip speeds, well i usually do movie only and 5.1 sound. i leave the xtras on the orig. last flick i did b/u 1hr 45min (movie only) peaked at 15,000kbs something wrote at 12x total rip from disc and burn time 9min 32 secs. usually flicks with little or no compression for me are blazing fast. btw i use single layer dvds =) X my vote is for lite-on if you havent bought one yet.....
Just picked up a Plextor PX-716SA. It is SerialATA, with 8MB cache! This thing is SWEET and fast. Top-quality unit, best firmware support too. Burners are so cheap these days, it's tough to get a good-quality unit... L8R
