Your search should begin and end with the Lite On 167T. There isn't a faster or more accurate ROM out there as far as I'm concerned. I got two and a half years of extremely hard use out of my Lite On 166S and just replaced it with a 167T.

These are some speed tests done with Nero CD/DVD Speed Utility.

    Lite-On 166S

    Tetsuo: The Ironman/SL @ 3.14GB

    Start: 6.37X
    Average: 10.81X
    End: 14.03X
    Elapsed Time: 3:48 minutes

    Seven Samurai Criterion Edition/DL @ 7.58GB

    Start: 3.31X
    Average: 6.05X
    End: 7.96X
    Elapsed Time: 16:56 minutes

    [/b]Lite-On 167T[/b]

    Tetsuo: The Ironman/SL @ 3.14GB

    Start: 6.39X
    Average: 10.79X
    End: 14.01X
    Elapsed Time: 3:48 minutes

    Seven Samurai Criterion Edition/DL @ 7.58GB

    Start: 3.30X
    Average: 6.03X
    End: 7.93X
    Elapsed Time: 17:00 minutes

    Plextor PX-708A with SpeedRead enabled.

    Tetsuo: The Ironman/SL @ 3.14GB

    Start: 3.36X
    Average: 5.42X
    End: 7.03X
    Elapsed Time: 7:25 minutes

    Seven Samurai Criterion Edition/DL @ 7.58GB

    Start: 3.37X
    Average: 6.18X
    End: 8.13X
    Elapsed Time: 16:35 minutes

Yeah, I love my Lite On 166S. It's still ripping strong after a year, and it's totally fast! It helped to flash the drive with hacked-firmware (to unlock ripping speeds). I got the firmware here:

[Install at your own risk, of course!]
