ok....... I did a backup of [bold]7seconds[/bold] ...... from Decrypt, editing, encoding, and then burning.....all told EXACTLY 2 HOURS (less 2 mins)! that's taking my time, and doing it right and not skimping or trying to break a record! Perfect back up.

What are you people kidding me?
    Go to slysoft.com
Get the 3pc deal for $78.00 US
Burn DVD's and CD backups untill your head explodes.
In just a few clicks and a few minutes you are done.
Full DVD from start to finish in under 30 minutes NOT HOURS!
    No ripping, converting or editing.
( a few check boxes to remove trailers etc )
    It is simple and intuitive.
It does not get any easier.
    Quality is excellent!
    Check it out!
Quit wasting your time with those "free" proggies
As far as disks go Ritek are fine
But I got a killer deal at Staples 100 pk 8x for 17.00 US
They burn fine in all my burners
    PS not a newbie

if you want speed.... use CloneDVD2 with DVD43 or AnyDVD..... burn with confidence, take out all you want from a DVD and it's under 20 mins!!! but you know something..... I'm waiting for this Tuesday to find out if DVDDecryter, DVDRemake, DVDREbuilder, and burn with CopytoDVD makes better quality out ripping and encoding a NEW DVD than doing it with CloneDVD2 and DVD43! If you want quality then going with the CCE in Rebuilder is the way to go. CloneDVD2 is great for quick and easy but quality we shall seeeeeeee.

hi - i read on here about all these programs everyone uses to make a copy of a dvd - taking alot of time from what i read - i am pretty new to this but is there a good reason to use all those other programs taking hours when you can use dvdshrink - and dvdclone 2 - and be done in 25 mins. - i have a 8x burner and burn at maximum speed - i hardly run into problems and all come out great - the picture is perfect and sound is also - so i dont understand what benefit would you get by using all those other programs ?? - i usually take everything out of the dvd besides the main movie to get the best picture from it - unless it fits on the disk without removing them - and sometimes i still take them out anyway - since no ones wants to wait 20 mins before watching a movie anyway - if there is a big difference and i just dont understand it -- please let me know about it-- maybe i can get a better copy from doing it different ways - but so far i had on complaints - i used Riteck R03 disks - work great under the maxell name from office depot -
    thanks

i am trying to find out whats the difference -- from what i understand you are saying that there is better picture and sound doing it with the other programs - ? i have always used shrink and dvdclone 2 or nero
would you be able to tell me which other programs i should try to compare the results -- i am new so if you can tell me in order which program to use and where to find the program -- i like to give it a try and see the difference myself - thanks :)

hi thanks for the info -- sounds nice but also sounds complicated -
the only problem i see is that CCE Basic leaves a logo on the stream it encodes ? so that would be useless i would guess - -- would i be able to skip CCE and still make a good copy ? if i cant skip CCE - is there any other open source problems that can replace it for the step

    thanks :)

thats fast - what speed are you burning at ? do you know if there is a free problem that would do the same job as CCE would do ?
i dont see how it takes so long to burn and copy and rip the disks -it take me about 30 mins to rip and burn total - and it comes out perfect
then i check it with dvdinfo pro -- and run it thru dvdshrink just to see if it can analyze it - without doing anything else -- i notice that if shrink analyzes it fine - most likely the disk dosnt have any errors but to be sure - i then check it with dvdinfo pro - the best test is when you watch it -

    thanks

I beg to differ....... I know everyone had said this soooooooooooooooo often that it's drummed into our heads...... don't burn past 8x......... well after more than 50 backups at 16x NOT ONE HAS COME OUT BAD! I use Nero, CopytoDVD, and CloneDVD2---Mostly CopytoDVD. Not one of those programs give me a problem burning at 16x.... all my tests come out just fine:

I have recently turned it down to 8x..... JUST IN CASE........ but I do make copies of copies at 16x and still no probs! Just so you know.

    Hi Everyone,
I haven't burned any movies yet. Trying to decide which step to take first and which direction to go in. I hope it is not as complicated as it seems to sound on this thread. There are several words that I am not familiar with, that I wish someone could explain.

    (1) Ripping
    (2) Encoding
    (3) Decryption

    Thanks

Welcome to our forum Motorcycl! It's not so hard at all, but when you're new at it everything is a little foreign..... don't let that stop you.
[bold]Ripping[/bold]: Taking a DVD and copying it's files onto your hard drive
[bold]Encoding[/bold]: Converting the files of a DVD to what you want...... like taking out a Warning screen or editing a menu on the DVD Structure.(at least that's what I think it is!). If I'm wrong someone will certainly correct me! Watch! LOL
[bold]Decryption[/bold]: is Ripping but a DVD has encrytions(codes) that try to stop you from copying....so you have to take out the codes(Decrypt)to enable the Ripping!

I know it's simple terms but this is my understanding of them. I'm sure others will put it better than I can.

    Thanks IHoe,
That explains a lot. Some of these post make sense now.
What would be some easy to use software to start out with, that won't break the bank. I don't guess there is any chance of some free stuff out there somewhere.

    Thanks again for the reply.

    @motorcycl

There are two free programs that are great for packing up your dvds. Download DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter. you can go to this site and get the programs and also the guides that will tell you how to use the software.

    http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/index.html

DVD Decrypter will rip your movie place it on the hard drive and you can then use DVD Shrink to encode and compress your movie and then Decrypter again to burn.

I'm not into speed..... although my machine is ready for it! I can use a one click program and burn a DVD in less than 20mins! But, is that what I really want. I just got the new update on DVDRebuilder ver 1.0 Pro! That makes the best quality that I've seen! It also takes longer..... all good things come to those who wait! hahahaha
