Totty, not to get too picky here, but could you please not post in such a long run on sentence? I had to read it three times to figure out what you were talking about.

    1. How did you turn your backup into the boot drive?
    2. Have you Googled "incorrect parameters" yet?
    3. How far into booting do you get this error?

no probs morph,,my back up h/d is 80 gig,my operating drive is 160 gig,so i copied all my stuff from back up 80 to 160,then i disconnected the 160 and tried to formatt the 80
i have googled it but i aint got a clue what i am looking for as i aint seen much concerning h/d parameters
it loads files, formatts, reboots the as the 39 minutes comes up i get the error msg..fatal error, said something about something failed to install
D:\1386\asms.error message : The parameter is incorrect..i have googled all day but no further forward
i have just got pc running with both h/d`s,160 operating and 80 back up,shows up in my computer, but still cant install windows to it

    Ah....ok.

    XP install problems.

Usually those stem from scratches, fingerprints...or a faulty CD/DVD drive. Rarely is the cause due to a motherboard malfunction.

Make sure the XP CD is as clean as it can be....repair any scratches on it. Use compressed air to clean out the CD/DVD drive.
