    Guys,

Im reading the notes on the 1.07 Firmware upgrade for my 106D. Everyone I see is saying that it offers 2x DVD-R burns - BUT - I thought this drive burns at 4x for + and - R media - does this firmware DOWNGRADE the drives speed for -R burns?

Also, should I use the firmware upgrade from Pioneer or use the RPC-1 version to make my drive Region Free? Is making the drive Region Free really necessary?

    Thanks,

    Mayor

    hi

@ tomq did your drive do anything extra after upgrade firmware?

and i think the 2X burn is if you use the RPC1 firmware thats its full speed not 4x ?!?

    thx..

yea, i grabbed the file from here
    http://forum.rpc1.org/viewtopic.php?t=18189

no extras, it also doesn't rip dvds at x12...
and in general i don't know why my writer and cobo drives rip so slow... may be because i have 3 HDD and 2 CD-Roms(combo and dvd-burner)...

I have flashed this firmware and it works very well. The 2x part of it is that this firmware allows you to burn a 1x disc at 2x, it does not affect the 4x burning of 4x media. The rip speed of 12x is for single layer DVD-5 original pressed discs only, the max rip for burn't or dual layer discs I have reached is 6.7x which is a vast improvement over the old firmware limited 2.1x.

    Hope this helps..
