I am having trouble burning my first movie, just the 12 minute sample provided with MyDVD. I am using a one year old, Gateway-supplied Panasonic LF-D311 drive and Windows XP. I get a system crash when the writing begins. I have gotten several suggestions that I should "upgrade my firmware". My questions:

    1. How can I determine what my current firmware version is?

    2. Where can I find the correct and current firmware version for this drive?

    3. As a newbie, I should avoid random user-developed firmware updates, and stick with the factory versions, right?

    4. Is there a thread/FAQ/guide on firmware how-to's/do's/dont's?

Thanks in advance for any other tips/help.

Use the search facility on this site http://forum.rpc1.com/

I've always found it to be a most useful place myself
