    Hi folks,
    I have a HL-DT-ST DVDRAM 4084N CD/DVD burnner drive.
It's made by DELL that shows on the burnner drive.
I'm wondering do any of you know where can I find
a latest firmware for this CD/DVD burnner drive??
A fimrware that would improve burning CD and DVD,
and improves loading CD and DVD.
This drive is for a DELL inspiron 3800 laptop.
    I brought this HL-DT-ST DVDRAM 4084N CD/DVD burnner drive
    on ebay.
Can any of you help me, or guide me to a site where I could
download any latest firmware for this CD/DVD drive for
burnning CD or DVD inprovement, and loading disc inprovement.
    Hope you can help.
    Thanks,
    Eugene

Have you tried the mfgr's web site for download support? I would check there first. Second place to check is here:

    http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_search.php

Good site. Use the search funtion.

Since you said Dell made your drive, I would look to www.dell.com for download support. Most drive manufacturers have their own web site for various support issues and downloads. Dell may have used a drive made by another company in their machine.

Download this handy little program, DISCInfo, here:

    http://discinfo.rpc1.org/

It gives good info about drive model, region status, and such. It tells me my drive is a Sony. Yours may have been made by someone other than Dell. In that case, look to their web site for support, ie. www.NAME.com.

    Hi,
It's ME, Eugene, again regarding my
    DVD burnner drive.
Okay, I got to use the DISCINFO software,
and I put it into my laptop to tell me
what model is my DVD burnner drive an order
to find the correct Updated fimrware.

    The DISCINFO shows

    Model: GSA-4084N

    The current firmware is KQ09.

Okay, now is there any update firmware that
I can find to add in to make the DVD burnner drive
to work, such as loading disc that takes too long,
    and burn DVD-R.

Hope you can help with answers.
    Thanks,
    Eugene

OK. I ran your model number through the download search function (link on my first post) and it came back with no results.

Laptops can be a problem. Only suggestion at this point is a serious call to Dell for their support and/or search their website for any downloads. There may be NO updates available. Try to Google for firmware on your model number.

    Good luck.

    Hi rulisky,
    Thanks for your response.
However, I've found the firmware and downloaded
    from "Dangerous Brothers' Presents" website.

    http://tdb.rpc1.org/

They have listed of firmwares for DVD burnner drive models.
And I found the one I want.

The firmware is: KQ09AUTIO.EXE and KQ09PRC1.EXE
I downloaded both of them and decided to install
    JUST the KQ09AUTO.EXE.

    Thought to let you know.

Go look for LC-GSA-4084N model on the
    "Dangerous Brothers'Presents" site.
You would have to scroll down for a while to find
    the GSA-4084N model.

Thanks and you're welcome to respond, if you want to.
    Regards,

Glad you found it. I had only looked on the main rpc1 site and did not check under the Dangerous Brothers.

    Hi Rulisky,

    I found it under
Firmwares in beta, the newest of the new. ** HIGHER RISK **

You have to scroll down just about towards the bottom of
    "Dangerous Brothers" site.

Once you get to firmwares in beta, keep scrolling down
    until you see LC-GSA-4084N.

    See ya,
    Eugene

    Hi rulisky,
    This is Eugene, again.
Remember me??? I hope that you're still here since we've
chatted about my GSA-4048N DVD RAM drive that needed firmware?
The GSA-4048N DVD Ram, DVD burnner drive is compatible with
    DELL Latitude C600 laptop.

Remember I sent you a message that I found one from "Dangerous
Brothers" site??? The firmware for the GSA-4048N are:

    KQ09AUTO.EXE
    KQ09RCP1.EXE

Well, once I installed them, come to find out that it
STILL DOESN'T WORK!!! After wasted 3 or 4 blank DVDs,
it won't burn DVDs. Still back to square one, and the
firmware I got now still doesn't help.

I can play DVD movies, I can backup DVD movies, but it
won't burns DVD-R or DVD+R DL. No matter what DVD software
I use. Such as RECORD NOW v7.3 I never have a problem with
    Record now.
I still have the same problem using DVD Decrypter.
So, the TEST tells me that this gotta be the DVD burnner drive
that still without the appropriate firmware.

What can you do to help?? Any suggestions that you might have.

If any other KQ09 fimrware out there is better than the one
I'm using now, I'm willing to exchange them by remove the current
    one.

    Hope you can help.
    Thanks,
    Eugene

This is an LG drive. Go to americal.com and look for firmware updates, or google dvd rom firmware updates.

I am having a problem with playing the CD R in my car. I am not sure if the problem is the CD R or the player. My burner is HL-DT-ST DVDRAM 4084N CD/DVD drive. Anyone knows what CD R is compatible to this hardware? does anyone know any trick or secret for a perfect burning experience?

once i burn and play it in my car. The CD is only good for less than 10 plays. I think the brand of my player is Fujitsu.

    thanks

My friend is having a problem with the same drive hl dt st gsa 4084n, the problem with it is that it's ripping extremely slow, usually 1-2x speed. Does anyone know what could possibly be wrong with it, oh and it is running on KQ09 firmware.

    i own a dell vostro 1500
replaced the original Hitachi LG Drive 11T by a GSA-4084N
    and had the same probs.
for testing I plugged it into my Fujitsu Siemens LifeBook and it works fine.
After figuring out what ist going on (reading dmesg, eventlogs in windows, configuring in devicemanager etc.) I have found out, that in some cases DMA won't be activated.
Try to open drive settings in devicemanager (tested in VISTA) an U will see, DMA is not activated.
Trying to activate, U will recocnise, that this setting lasts only while the devicemanager window is open.
So what is crap, the device, the OS, the Laptops???

I think dell &co have al lot of work to do.

    cheers

i have been having this same problem and i just fixed it!

i was having trouble importing CDs into itunes ver 7.6.1.9

i have the Rev KQ09 version of the firmware on the HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4084N drive in an HP NC8430 laptop on Vista SP1

itunes was importing CDs with track lengths of 789:57:13 and very small files around 40kb

i did not have to install different firmware. all i did was change the driver in device manager. i clicked on the "update driver" button and chose "browse my computer" for the driver. on the next screen, i selected "let me choose from a list of drivers". i UNCHECKED the "show compatible drivers" box and selected the Mitsumi manufacturer and "cd-rom drive" model.

i went back to itunes and it worked!

one other thing i should note is that i have had to make a change to the registry. i did this when vista wasn't recognizing the disc in the drive. i'm putting this here in case my fix is also dependent on this. go to this key in regedit:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

open the LowerFilters value and clear out what's there. this fixed my not-recognizing the disc in the OS problem.

    hope this helps
