I was wondering what everyones thoughts on firmware for their dvd-r drives were? If your driver has no problems, should you still be installing firmware to it? I have an old pioneer a05 and was wondering whether I should install the firmware versions available for it but I have never tried something like this. My driver works fine but maybe the firmware would speed the write speed up or something. Any thoughts?

Really, if your drive is reading discs fine and has no trouble burning etc then there is no need to update the firmware. However, firmware does bring the possibility of advanced/superior/faster write strategies, more media support etc.

Provided you have the correct firmware version and follow the instructions you should not encounter any problems whilst flashing.

I think your drive is quite old as far as drives now-a-days go, so you might want to update the firmware anyway - no more updates will probably be made available.
