does anybody know what is happening here?
i have downloaded the 2.50 firmware update for the Optorite DD0203 and when i double click the .exe it pops open and then closes.
within the zip file of the firmware are the files:

    1) DV2.bin
    2) Dvflash.exe
    3) readme.txt

within the txt doc it reads:

    1. Please upgarde your BIOS on REAL DOS mode, not VIRTUAL DOS.
    2. Command: dvflash dv2.bin /f

    XP Pro
    regards

    Hi G4MERZOID
I have an Optorite DD0203. I have to update the firmware via a DOS boot. I created a DOS boot disc and added the firmware update files. I then rebooted the computer into DOS and ran the firmware update. It updated just fine. I think Optorite has gone this route to lessen the firmware update failures.
    I hope this helps

    Hi G4MERZO1D
I will see what I can do
    First
We need to make a boot disc on a floppy - see www.bootdisk.com.
    Second
We copy the DV2.bin and Dvflash.exe files to that disk
    Third
    Shut down the computer
    Insert floppy to floppy drive
    Restart the computer
Enter Bios setup and ensure the computer will boot from the floppy
    Restart the computer again
let it boot to Real Dos
    Run Dvflash.exe
answer the questions and then update
If you are not sure how to run this update have a local computer wiz run it instead. A botched firmware upgrade could toast the drive.
    I hope this helps

many regards for that, so i go to that site, and download one of the dos .exe's??
put that to a floppy along with the .bin and the other .exe file.
shut down, insert disk, reboot, bios setup, read from floppy, run .exe, follow on screen and hey presto? ;) liking it.
i never use dos and havnt since i was about 9 or 10 (NO JOKE), so which dos i need?

    DOS 5.0
    DOS 6.0
    DOS 6.21
    DOS 6.22
    DOS 6.22 5 1/4 1.2 meg disk

could u also give me a rating out of 10 for the drive ;)
    sorry once again

    ok, really struggling here.
just got the drive delivered and its come pre-flashed with the 2.17 firmware.
i want to upgrade the firmware to 2.50 (NEW), managed to get to real dos mode to flash, i hit A:\ then dvflash dv2.bin /f like instructed in the readme.txt, then gives me a choice of my 2 drives to flash, i choose the OptoRite DD0203 and then it says something like unable to flash this drive

    Hi G4MERZO1D
Sorry I have not replied earlier. Last week became crazy with a funneral, mother-in-law in hospital and Easter. I glad you found the right firmware and it updated OK. I do not know much about Xbox games. Someone else may need to chip in and help you out
    Good Luck
