    Some suggestions:

Do you have an external HDD or USB Memory stick? Can you get into your Bios and will it allow either of these external devices to boot from? Can you place your friends HDD into your PC as a slave and load the 98se cab files onto it? Can you create a bootable CD to load your cab files?

It's been a while since I worked with Windows 98se but I know ddp is an expert with this and I'm sure he could help you with it. PM him and see if he can give you a tip.

You can create a simple DOS boot CD as well. I use this image here:

    http://www.thetechguide.com/howto/winmebootcd.html

I just burn the image to the CD as instructed. When you boot from this CD, your prompt will be A:> after it's done. (note, don't select to install Windows ME unless it's used to create a full ME installation CD - you can modify the start menu to exclude that option) This image, when burned as instructed, uses the CD drive as the floppy drive (emulated).

Then, you will see on your screen what your CD drive letter will be. Choose to change to your drive letter, insert the Windows 98 CD, and then type in 'setup' (without quotes of course).

Good Luck. This is what I use to install 95/98 and ME.
