Very basic rule of thumb (doesn't apply always, but in most cases): longer it takes, better the result (in terms of quality).

You can speed up the TMPGEnc encoding dramatically by changing the "Motion search precision" value in TMPGEnc settings to Fastest, but the quality will be worse. Its then upto you to decide whether you want to have faster encoding or better quality.

well id like to try mainconcept, but i cant find it! koola- it took 2 hours, but thats because you have a friggin hulk of a computer- i only have a 1.3 ghz with 256 MB ram

also- wheres the best place to download movies? kazaa keeps queing me, (even though i have a 1000 ratiting and DSL) or i get very slow speeds even though they have a high bandwidth, and Edonkey is crap, i only get like 1k download speeds with it_X_X_X_X_X_[small]check out my site "www.backupguides.vze.com" for free software and illustrated guides on copying DVDs to DVD, to CD, and other copying stuff.[/small]

thank you, i found it shortly after posting that but thank you anyway, i have one question though, i tried a 5 minute clip of a movie and it came out fine and only took about 7 minutes to convert it, but it left me with both an mpeg audio file, and a .mpv video file, what do i do with these when i author them to a DVD?

Authoring depends totally on your authoring software, there are tens of authoring tools out there. But one of the best (quality vs cost) is probably DVDlab. You can download a trial from our site.

A simple fix pcshateme, you need to select the [bold]Stream type[/bold] popdown menu and then select [bold]Program (Video + Audio)[/bold].
The file will now come out as one containg audio and sound. Now put it into TMPGEnc DVD Author to make your DVD files.

    Good luck :D
