Sometimes after burning a new rewritable disc, the result is far from perfect. It probably happens to a lot of people. Up till now my solution to this, was to quick erase the disc (using Nero) and try again.
However a few times it happened now, that the erasing goes wrong, the disc ejects and after reinserting the disc, neither windows explorer, nor "Nero burning rom" can see that there is a disc present.
I downloaded a little program called isobuster what can be used to restore stuff from corrupt dvd's or cd's and this program still sees the data on the dvd's, but there is no erase or format function on this program. Does anybody know of a program that can format or erase (these) DVD +RW rewritables?

what version of Nero do you have...... if you have Nero 6 or 7 then there is a program in the ToolKit for NERO PRODUCTSETUP and run the REPAIR ..... should correct your erase problem and fix Nero! good luck.

Thx for your answer. I've got Neroversion 6.6, but I can't find the program or repair utility, you mentioned; do you have the exact name of the program?. In the toolkit (map) are some info-tools (cdspeed, drivespeed, hwinfo and infotool) but none of them can be used for repairing. I might still be helped though if someone knows of a (little) program that can 'simply' format or erase DVD +rw's.

Well.. With Imgburn, i was able to erase one of the problemdisks.
It was also possible to burn a movie on it using Nero, or at least i got the message "writing successfull"; but after re-inserting the disk, not even that program isobuster could see that there was a dvd in the drive.
So my guess now, after your suggestion of repairing Nero, would be to re-install Nero, and maybe use some cleaningdisk in my NEC 1300A DVD-recorder.
    Other suggestions are ofcourse welcome.

are you sure that Nero closed the disk. Sometimes Nero make a multisession disk..... meaning that you can ad more to the disk! In IMGBurn or DVDDecrypter right click on the writer drive and then go to CLOSE/DISK.....should close the disk and then you're drives will recognize the DVD! I don't know why Nero does this but that's what I heard in another thread. Must have NOT hit a setting button or something.

No, doesn't work. When i try to close the disc in imgburn the following error occurs.

Which brings us back to re-installing nero i suppose. I will do that later this day and if there are some major improvements i will post them in this thread.

how old is this drive....... I can't even see any new updates on your firmware! And your speed of the drive for CD burning is only 16! The drive must be over 4 or so years old! Many improvements have occured since then! I am on my 2nd burner now since I bought a new computer last year for this reason to burn DVDs........ maybe it's time to put the old ghost to rest?

Well it's not that old actually. It was released less than 3 years ago. So it's not the latest model but to call it a old ghost..
But i agree that they stopped renewing the firmware rather soon. The last version was february 2005. But still that can't be the cause for these problems imho.

ohhhhhhhh it may very well be the problem. check this out:

    http://www.videohelp.com/dvdwriters...m=&dvdrom=&orderby=Name&hits=25&Search=Search

here is your drive..... it only burns at 16x for CDs...... new ones burn at 54X!! admit it..... your drive is old and now it's not respoding to disks that you used to write on!! check out this thread about a drive that also doesn't respond to disks and was advised that the drive might be the issue: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/2/336689#1973726

No, i can't agree with you there.
You say: "now it's not respoding to disks that you used to write on!!"
Logically that can't apply to the age of the firmware! Which was my point here.
If you mean here, that the drive may be the issue, you might be right. Since i re-installed Nero in the meantime, cleaned the drive, reapplied the latest firmware and changed the (actual) booktype setting to dvd +rw. None of it helped.
I did however do all the writing and erasing on a new batch of rewritables (same brands 'Maxell and Sony' i used before). So i now tried to erase one of my old memorex +RW discs; worked fine. Writing a movie to it; perfect result.
So the not updated firmware, like you (IHoe) mentioned before is indeed really the bottleneck here.
Is it normal, that firmware stops being updated after approx. 1.5 year after its release? Especially with a (then) popular model as the NEC 1300A.
So old or not, it looks like i've got to shop for a new burner anyway.
