hi creaky, you might be right in that I can read and speak quite well, but the writing is for some reason so damn hard. Well, back to the topic... what do you all think about that? (time + posts system)
There is a short cut in kisses. to higher rank. I ain’t saying where ye have to kiss them. Newbie to Junior Member -- one post and 3 kisses for Ddp or 500 posts Junior Member to Member -- 10 posts and 5-kisses for Creaky or 1000 posts Member to Senior Member -- 20 posts and 10 kisses for Nephilim or 5000 posts Senior Member to Addict -- 30 posts and 20 kisses for Herbsman or 10,000 posts anyone to Moderator -- one post and ye got to kiss them all.30x’s
I agree with that one as looking back on some of my earlier posts I had trouble reading them myself. I think everyone that has reached certain levels here feel they deserve it (not withstanding the idiotic 'yea I agree' which pad post counts) yet there will always be grumbling how the ranking system would be setup. Might be something the mods and staff could get together and huddle up to discuss as too many threads have tossed ideas around but no solution. For a forum so informative and FREE to join the only titles really relevant should be moderators and staff in my opinion. As I have always said not to slight the 'elder' addicts here but with so many making it a point to get there so quick it kind of loses the emphasis of what the dedicated ones have/ will do for afterdawn.
@matt72 couldn't agree with you more on your point here, i also agree with pkaksp's point about duration of time here on AfterDawn plus the post count to attain the "higher rankings" of senior or addict~ as there will ALWAYS be some debate on what the "ranking system" should be, there will be opinions from BOTH sides (those that post meaningless dribble to get to a higher status as quickly as possible vs. those who truly help out others here with no care for the title that is under(after) their names) lastly, if "hand-picking" seniors/addicts is not an option at this point (which i know it isn't), my OPINION of it is that ddp has the right idea, rather than making the post counts LOWER to attain certain status, it would actually be pretty nice to DOUBLE what it currently is so that those who post here ONLY to reach a certain "status" will have to be even MORE dedicated to get to their own "goals" LOL i just don't see why so many people are so obsessed with reaching a certain "status" on here, i've seen quite a few "senior members" here lately that in reality don't know much about anything (no offense to anyone that is a senior member), it makes me ponder sometimes when i see a newbie or a junior member that actually posts GOOD/ACCURATE information and he/she gets blown off because of their "status"...and in the same breath if a "senior member" says something that is TOTALLY FALSE/DISINFORMATION, he/she is trusted as being "knowledgeable" about the subject at hand...which lately, is often times NOT the case... i rarely post in the safety valve or the all other topics forums, but once in awhile, i do like to voice my opinion too~ even with the posts in these 2 forums no longer "counting" towards one's total posts (which i find to be a good decision by dRD), if implementing ddp's idea or that of pkaksp or a combination of the two, it might do AfterDawn some good and a change for the better may begin... that's just my 2 cents on it all docTY~
The RANK system has been discussed many times. Most of us OLD TIMERS look at Afterdawn as a part time job with no pay or benefits. The only pay we look forward to is a possible THANK YOU from someone we may have helped. The only BENEFIT we use to look forward to was if you worked hard and tried to help the best you could, you might be noticed by the mods and be hand picked as a SENIOR member some day. I made a statement in another thread that AD ADDICTS were like seeing UFO's. They were so few in number that if you saw one you had to look twice to make sure it was real. I use to go through the threads looking for posts by these few addicts knowing they were probably the best on here and wanted to learn from their knowledge. Now, as we all know those titles don't mean anything except that someone knows how to type fast. All the new members can't understand why many on here want a better rank system. If they had been around here 2 or 3 years ago when the rank and titles did mean something , they would have a better understanding of what the fuss is all about. Jerry
Currently that is exactly what I have been doing. Reading old threads from years back reminds me that no matter how much you think you know there are always alternative methods. With the vast amount of folks visiting/ joining AD daily setting the example should be for those with senior, member and junior status as their current titles to represent what AD has the potential to be (to include some of you nilly-fingered addicts who know who they are).
You guys bring up some good points in here.. especially regarding some senior members who make their "status" in weeks and subsequently post misleading info to newbies all over the forums.
I would just like to make the point that this thread was started mainly out of curiosity, not whiniess (is that how you spell it?) and i guess now that i read all these statments I do back in the ranking system thanx for the input.
remember too that some people with knowledge can post quickly & gain status quickly. me, i was a senior in a month from starting on this site & an addict in 4 months less 1 week.
it should be rated on quality of the posts, time shouldn't be a factor (& maybe even amount of posts shouldn't). if good people post good reliable info then they shouldn't be stuck at newbie for XX months. it's quality that counts! i think whatever method AD use some one will ALWAYS disagree & have their opinion of how it "should" be done. from what i have seen all the senior/addicts have the knowledge to help & do help out in the forums & should be entitled to that status. even some of the members that are on here regular, should be senior judging by the knowledge they have, yet they have to wait until 500 posts. (there are no unknowledgeable seniors/addicts in my experience so why change the system?) we all get to see who is posting good reliable info & who isn't. the mods, should have power to put someone at the status they deserve my 2cents worth
@ddp, A few hours a I read one of your earliest posts "R.T.F.M." and still laughing. I want to learn how you say so much in one line and get your point across.
I'd say that upping the number of posts for statussed would be a good thing *the numbers Ireland came up with looked most appealing to me, minus the @ss kissing of course*, because then the people that really make a difference are awarded appropriate titles *unless you're like ddp, the you'll just race you way up * I personally don't care about what it says under my name, as long as i have the option to report an offensive post and don't have to wait 3 minutes between posts, i'll get along nicely, in my own way.
I agree with the Fiend. If I don't have to wait 3 minutes to reply to a post, and have the ability to report an offensive post, then that is all the status I ever need. I don't think I will ever have the knowledge to deserve a rank higher than junior member. I try to point people in the right direction if they are searching for answers, but I don't have any original solutions to their problems. I have been here for about 15 months and have learned so much from so many people. I would hate to some day achieve Senior status, just by providing links to the answers provided by true Senior Members or Addicts. Just my 2 cents.
i vote that everyone who asks about rank after tonight be banned immediately for a minimum of 25 years fusion: the answer is "no." if you want an explanation, you will have to search for it. that's what the function is there for.
fusion, ill help you out this time...the ranks are updated every few weeks so everyone who should be updated will get updated. also it depends if you have posted in the safety valve or not cause those posts dont count.
ok i was just wondering i thought it was an automatic thing. my mistake i knew when the upgrade was i just didnt know when it went into effect.
yep u got it, its automatic updates, but more importantly is to remember that safety valve posts dont count towards your total. either way, glad you got the answer you were looking for
