Okay, I will try that when I get home. I also have some personal folders shared :) - such as "Videos".

BUT that "Videos" folder is sitting inside of my folder "Mike" which is another user on the computer. Should I have my shared folders sitting outside of the users folders..? Perhaps...

I got it working! I used ccXstream. I so feel like I cheated. But hey - it's working, I guess I can't complain. Just wish I didn't have to start ccXstream every time I wanted to use XBMC :p...

Thanks for all your help chunkhead.

I'd still be looking into what is causing your problem. It'll be something simple, nobody else is having issues!

You can get the ethernet card with the internet connection to share it's internet. Try the solution I posted in page 5...

Ok Chunk, I need to pick your incredibly large brain again.

I have gotten my home network setup using my LinkSys router, (1) XP Pro PC, and an Xbox. All see each other and watching movies/ftp between them is OK.

I am adding a Win2k machine to the network via straightthru cable to the router. The 2k machine does have internet via the router.

I understand the XP Network setup disk will not work with 2k so I have basically cloned all the network settings by setting them all up on WORKGROUP and I wente into the 2k IP settings and created an IP address 1 digit off of the IPs I am using for the XP machine and the Xbox.

    LinkSys Router - 192.168.2.1
    XP - 192.168.2.2
    Xbox - 192.168.2.3
    2k - 192.168.2.4

I can ping the 2k machine from the XP machine but not Xp from the 2k machine. They also cannot find each other through Network Neighborhood -> Search for Computers.

What obvious step am I missing?

    Thanks up front Chunk.

2k uses an almost identical engine to XP.

Have you got any firewalls setup? Make sure Windows firewall is off (pointless anyway) and you have disables 'Simple File Sharing'

I'd also ensure that the router is aware of all the static connections.

ok so today i read that theres a way to be able to play your music and videos from your computer on your xbox, and i figured i would do this to save some space on my xbox. all day now ive been trying to do this but since i have very little knowledge of computers its been pretty difficult. i know it has something to do with the workgroup (smb) network option in the video and music section but im not sure how to set it up. i read that when you click on that your supposed to see somethings there but for me there is nothing. any help in getting this set up is greatly appreciated. if theres any other information you need to know just let me know and ill get it for you.

    @ xchasmx

You need to setup share folders on your PC first! There is a whole section on this in the first page! ;)

    @ Riamage

I need a bit more information! I'm assuming you've followed the guide on page one, and that you are using a modded Xbox with a modded dash (EvoX, UnleashX, XBMC, etc).

Is your home network also on the 192.168.0.x network? Both the network that you are connecting from and the Xbox need to be on the same network (IP range and subnet).

    eg.

    Your PC is 192.168.0.3

    Your Router is 192.168.0.5

Your Xbox must be on the 192.168.0.x network also, and it also must have a different number to all the other devices connected!

They will all have the Subnet mask of 255.255.255.0

Can you test the setup without the router? Start with minimal hardware and troubleshoot from there!
