    So heres the situation:

I have been attempting to completely reformat my Ipod through iTunes without success (seems I continualy get the wonderful error code 1436). After a lot of web searches and trouble shooting and doing what I found nothing is working. seems there may be an error in the USB drives (????). In researching my PC (running Windows XP) it does not look like SP1 or SP2 were installed before SP3. Would this cause these kid of issues????? What should I do to get this corrected?

Part two to this is that I also read you can completely reformat the iPod (in windows) to a FAT32 and then use iTunes to restore the iPod. Is this correct and if so is it a good idea? Any help as always is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Apple uses FAT32. The most likely reason why you are having so much trouble is not the format but the disk or CPU.
