Can some one please tell me what the serial port on the bottom of the GC is used for? and if there is a way of utilizing it? My GC already has the high speed port and the broadband port taken up by the BBA and the GB adapters, but there still is one port left.

Probably the modem. Nintendo did briefly manufacture dial-up modems for the Gamecube.

    IceMonkey,

The modem would use the same slot as the BBA, since it is the same size, I have read that there were plans for an hard drive add on at one point, but I guess that was dropped. if the other serial port is able to handle a HD it would be nice to see if some one can make some sort of connector, but I guess there would still be the problem of getting it to boot with out a readable disk, the pso hack may have to be used. hehe, please dont mind me, I am just thinking outside of the cube.

Hello everyone. The reason I have stumbled upon your forum here is becuase I been searching all over for all these programs that let you save files from your memory card to your computer. You might end my search by answering one question. The reason I'm looking for all this stuff is because I play PSO and recently my data got corrupted. I am now just hoping that I can use one of these programs to save the data to my computer and somehow salvage it by putting it on another card replacing the corrupted data or somthing. If this is all futile then I guess I give up. If not or if your not sure I'm willing to try anything. Right now I'm tinkering around with the psul v1.1. The directions I've found here are pretty simple so far until I get to the part where I actually start psul. It says to use the DOS prompt: psul -s. But when I enter it, it just say bad command or file name (or somthing lile that). Any suggestions?

what are you all doing exactly?

you're just double clicking on psul.exe?

or are you typing cmd into run, going to the directory psul is in, and then typing psul -s. then, in phantasy star online, connecting to an "online game"?

if it's the latter, you're doing it right. if you're running it after you've loaded the "online game," and it opens real quick then closes... it's done with what it's meant to do (whatever that is).

    let us know.

    peace,
    matt

What do you mean by "cmd into run". To be honest I'm not too familiar with windows. The psul folder is located in C:\WINDOWS. I then go to MS-DOS prompt from programs and type in "psul -s". I've also tried opening the file in C:\ called Command and doing the same thing. Either way it says Bad command or file name. I do all this before going online in PSO.

Go to start, then to 'run', its on that list. then when on the run screen type in 'cmd', itll bring up an ms-dos prompt window. then enter what you need into that...

you're not in the directory that psul is located...

    here's what you should do:

find the directory where psul.exe is located. (ex: c:\my downloads\psul\)
    write it down.
now go to start then click run, and type cmd then click ok.
    at the command prompt type:
cd [the path where psul is located, that you wrote down]
    so... i'd type:
    cd c:\my downloads\psul

hit enter. this brings you into the directory where psul is located.

now type dir and hit enter
this will list the "directory" of files and folders.
make sure you see psul.exe in there.

type psul -s and hit enter

and then load phantasy star online and start an online game.
if you configured your gamecube correctly, it should download whatever it downloads to your gamecube. and you're done.

if i get motivated, i'm gonna make a tutorial with screenshots shortly. I'm come across real world demand for such a thing.

    hope that helps.

    peace,
    matt

Okay, I dumped everything into the folder that says My Documents. So when you double click on My Documents, you see seven files:crt0.s, czn-ps11.nfo, czn-test.dol, file_id.diz, psul, readme, and whats new. So I opened that command prompt (I had to actually type out command instead of cmd. Dont know if that matters.) and typed: cd c:\My Documents\psul

After I do this it says "Too many parameters - Documents/psul"

What's the cause of this new obsticle?

You know guys the new Starcube loader is better it loads the games alot faster. it says they fixed it to work at 100 mbit. and I did run a few other games using it and all the streaming problems that I usualy see were gone. so I suggest getting that loader.for the really good games.

No its 100mbit but not full duplex I watched it switch speeds on my little hub I use. It starts out at 10 and switchs to 100 when you select 100mbit But some games are still chopy I think that because of garbage data.

No, Garbage data is written so that the game can occupy more of the allocated DVD space (a kind of filler really), just reduces file fize not transfer rates...
