for fusks sake... the only needless post is yours, indienemo.

now with the viper modchip, you CAN play backups on minidvdrs or if you remove the gamecube cover you can also play backups on standard size dvdrs.

You can also buy ViperGC's from www.robotpig.com. Although, they are out of stock until Jan.5th ETA. I ordered one from him, and got it in 4 days, with EMS. And I also use him as my XBOX and PS2 chip supplier. He is very reliable and trustworthy.

my post was not needless. in fact i would go as far as to say it was very appropriate... there are loads of lurkers that come onto these forums and ask "can i play gamecube games on mini dvd-r?" (without even a chip), it must of been asked about 40 times now and it wastes everyones time.

    stop being ignorant
this thread is over a year old and it has been stated several times that you CANNOT play games on a mini dvdr, but this is now outdated info since you CAN with the modchip.
obviously you didnt know that and wanted to bitch at at someone for asking a legit question

You still have to stream a rip tool to the Gamecube in order to read the contents of the original game disc or download a pre-ripped image.

    Please HELP.

Using: Newest gamecube (just bought it on 1/09/05), cross-over cable, PSUL v1.1

I followed your instructions exactly, but am having trouble connecting. On PSUL screen I get the
    "Served DNS query from 192.168.1.32"

    but that is all....

On PSO, I get an error message:

    (No.101)
Attempt to connect to the server has
failed. It is possible that the server is
    undergoing maintenance.
    The line will be disconnected.
    PRESS START.

If anyone can help I would very much appreciate it.

I know how its like when your stuck & no one wants to help you or they think they know what there talking about but they have no idea.

Its so easy - This is all you need. Dont worry if other people disagree with this because i have done this & it fully works with no problems.

    Network adapter
    Cubesoft Phoenix v2.50
    Viper Gc Modchip
Phantasy Star Online 1 & 2 - which can be backed up once you have the modchip

Follow Icemonkey steps regarding Phantasy Star Online.
Using Phoenix v.250 you wont get alot of problems as the prev version did. To backup the image use Cubesoft phoenix v.250 but save as .iso, beware the new version of phoenix will allow you to use different ip & dns settings with your gamecube.

Make sure before you backup your image you save it as .iso, if for some reason its a .gcm you can diffently rename this as .iso before burning the image to mini dvd.

    You open up nero:
    1) File open
    2) Select the .iso & burn
    3) Beware media is important not all media are known by the gamecube.
    4) Hyundai will work but arent the best media for gamecube, if you use this media please make sure the dvd aren't dusty or it will not read.

For direct copy use Alcohol 120% - this is once the image has been backed up onto mini dvd already

    Know this points as well:

Once you chip your gamecube if you left the whole top off a dvd will fit into your gamecube & run - MUCH CHEAPER SOLUTION BUT your gamecube will get very dusty.

The new bios for the chip just came out & it runs like magic.

It comes down to this - If you do not chip your gamecube DONT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH just with Phantasy Star online - it streams the games so slow & choppy. They have got titles working & have done a great job but with the chip you will not get 1% of lag.

    @ fart dude

Look at the age of this thread. When it was started, they could be burnt ont a DVD or whatever, but nobody was able to play them on the cube, you always had to stream them.
Even today you are unable to play burned games without the modchip.

Try to ask this guy, how he did it.
I'm sorry, but I'm not sure if I believe you, because he would be the first one ever to have managed this.
But I'd be very interested in how it works.

    @FartDude

Could you please share with us how did you manage to make backups and play these on the GC, without modchip, or any other "help"?

    Thanks,

ok i'll try and get up with the dude next weekend and get all the steps but from what i've seen , there is some program that will rip the (i think) game bio's is that right? then use alcohol to make an image , and then u need a lite-on dvd burner, and a booktype changer and use this too make a GVD instead of a DVD, anyone ever heard of this method? i guess it works unless he can get nintendo to burn games for him but i doubt thats likely
