Gent756, the max drive does not have any cheating software, it is only for backing up savegames and booting code

crzyfl: I an reffering to the post made by Olyscott8

    MAX DRIVE PRO

Found this out myself by trail and error. Just copied the GCOS 1.4 Gamecube operating system bios to the card and it said it wasn't a savestate but said it could convert it. Did that and popped the Max Drive in the Gamecube with the Max Drive Boot Disk. Chose the POS executable from the menu and ran it. Chose run back up game and it gave me 8 seconds to swap the disc for the back up! A window came up telling me the game and region. Hit A to auto detect PAL or NTSC and the back up ran perfectly! (Mario Party).

    You will require...

A Gamecube (mine is UK PAL)
Max Drive Pro (Must be Pro)
    Sony 8cm Mini-DVD (Handicam DVDs)
GCOS 1.4 Bios (Google for it)
A Gamecube Game RIP (Change to .ISO and burn in Nero (ISO and finalize).

    Cheers

Im wondering if you can use the AR to cheat with the back up Handicam DVDs with the above method.

hi, i know how to read, and read i did. i read alot of this fourm from the begining. the guide is so old, and i can't find half the tools. they also said that you can't copy gamecube games onto mini dvds. i am pretty sure you can. i have got my xbox softmodded and my ps2 with swap magic. i have over 150 backups between the two. so how do you do gamecube? it can't be harder then xbox. is there a "soft mod" way to play backup gamecube games ? of do i have to get a mod chip. if i get a mod chip installed, is that the hardest part. can i do everything easier with a mod chip? and most importantly , is there a UPDATED guide to copying game cube games to mini dvdrs and playing them????????????? thanks a bunch. if the the stuff is too private and illegal... pm me.

Look at my posts in this thread, last few pages of it (32 on?)... you might see what I am doing.

    Quickly:

    - get a QOOB PRO
    - solder it in
    - order Ritek G04's mini dvds
    - flash QOOB PRO with Qoob Bios 1.3c
    - download GC iso's from newsgroups
    - burn iso using Nero to mini
    - play game

    My status:

    QOOB enroute.
    DVDs enroute.
    GC disassembled.
    ISOs in hand.

    Utilities? ModThatCube: http://modthatcube.pxn-os.com/content/files/index.htm

There... I shared my 8 hours of research with you. Answers to your questions ARE in this thread, and others. You must not be a good reader ;)

DISCLAIMER: I am a newbie. I have 8 hours research into this stuff. I could be full of sh*t. :)

Boboclown you said "all my ISOs I have downloaded are 1.425 gig, no need to gc wipe"this got me thinking that my "streamed" original games did not need to be fixed. I tried backing up again without "Wiped GCM Fixer" and it works. It turns out that Homebrew games that are under 1.425 gig only need to be fixed.Learning on the fly,Thanks!
You could use full size media(cheaper)without the case cover.Dremeling the case would work but the lid would not fit the bigger hole. You would eliminate the front plastic light cover and open/close latch would have to be modified only if you wanted it to stay closed(not necessary).

    Powerhouse,

I think I can concur with your findings re: GC Wipe... I had thought I read that you run GC Wipe to "pad" game copies with additional bytes to "boost" them up to the expected standard size of 1.425... and that if your game copy size is already there at 1.425, no need to GC Wipe.

(QOOP Pro should be here this week!)

Modding the case: confirmed... playing full size would require a dremel job that would have less-than-appealing results. I am simply going to buy stacks of Ritek mini's and leave it at that.

My next step once I get this show set up is to learn how to rip games. While I haven't focused on this, my understanding is this, roughly:

    1) need broadband adapter, install onto bottom of gamecube.
    2) load some kind of ripper application to QOOB
    3) boot GC and get it an IP and make it visible to my PC (question: is there a special application I need to run on the PC to gain this visibly to the GC disc drive?)
    4) stream game from GC to PC.
    5) Not sure what it looks like when it arrives, if it is in pieces, and I have to buyndle it into an .gcs/.iso, or what.
    6) once bundled, burn to Ritek mini.
    7) mission complete.

My plan is to print some information out on this part of the GC hack tomorrow. If you have pointers or clues, and take pity on newbies who don't do research (I don't, right Lolypop), then let'em rip. Either way, I think I am close and the exercise will be pretty academic.

    Later :)

do modchips really burn out gamecubes in a few months? or did you wire it wrong... i am not calling anyone incompitent. by far you guys know more about gamecubes then i. normally i don't like gamecube simplely because they don't put out enough games!, but it is for my personal sadifaction that i could mod it. i might just wait a bit longer untill there is a updated 100% full proof guide that is somewhat simple to follow and maybe some better gamecube ripping programs. gamecube copying is not very big. i am not sure why. there is never much info on it, on the web. and what i do find is so old. and right now i am going back to read page 34.

    Lolipop, and other newbies

"modchips kill GCs" comment above was a joke. Sarcasm. Directed towards people who don't help themselves by reading this entire thread before asking questions like "how do I play backups?".
