ok i am going to sum up my final questions....I have been using RB for a week now and i am trying to figure out everything i was wondering so i dont have to go back and re do some things.....1)When backing up movies do i need to know about matrices....2) If i have anydvd do i need to rip the dvd or can i just use the actual dvd as my source in RB...3)What is the 2-Ch audio i always take out of my backups...I have always only left 5.1 Ch.....is the adio i have been taking off in the actual movie or just somewhere in the extras? Sorry so much but i am a perfectionist and if i realize that i have done something wrong then i cant help but redo it..and this takes alot of time to do

    1) No. Understanding how something works often makes one feel better about doing a job, but it isn't necessary. Much as using a PC doesn't require your knowing how to build and maintain it.

    2) Either way. Ripping to the hard drive is a few minutes faster, at least on my system. That includes the time to rip the files to the HDD plus running RB. You need to take into consideration all the extra time the optical drive will be running if you decide to use the DVD as the source. With RB, most people use hard drive files.

    3) 2-channel is the 2 channel stereo for 2 speaker systems. 5.1 will play on 2 channel as well.

As for myself, I let the system automatically delete DTS if it's on a disc, since I don't have DTS hardware. The 2 channel doesn't take that much space. RB does a good job, so you don't have to be too "perfect" about editing everything. I keep a single language for audio and subtitles and automatically delete DTS. With those settings I select the full backup without using the steal space option. I watch the backups on a 60" TV and my wife says she can't tell the difference between the backups and originals.

when you were talking about movies..what do you consider to be an old movie...80's movies or like really old movies

Really old movies. I like the ones with sound. Some of the movies made back in the 50's are good even by today's standards. The cinematography and audio may not be up to par, but the storylines for some were very good. Then there were the B movies that were just for fun. They were enjoyable when I was a child, but nowadays a more mature audience will see them as being contrived. I noticed an old John Wayne flick where he road down a concrete drain line on a shovel. How often do you think that would happen in the old west? Also I've noticed on the houses where someone painted over light fixtures (old single bulbs) instead of removing them. How often do you think a person would see electric fixtures in the real old west? As I said, the Bs are just fun and memories of younger days. Strangely enough, they've become a genre of their own.

Most of the good movies made in the 80's aren't the ones suffering from deterioration. I'm not saying don't use filters, I just haven't found them to be very effective. Give it a try and see what you think.

The same results. With the 3 step mode you can resume during a build where the one step starts from scratch.
