they say 180 is "perfect" but yea 195 will work fine. It will also give you longer lens life than 180 will. If it doesn't work for you, then lower it some. But i wouldn't go below 170.

I just bought a gamecube a month ago with the intention to mod it. I was just wondering
since my gamecube is a new version (super smash bros. bundle/ platinum edition/NTSC)
would that make it likely I'd have problems with the laser/pot issues.

I really don't want to open my cube! (I'm doing a max drive pro method)

I am using a platinum GC just like you, and it works just fine, you probably won't have to adjust the POT, but that is a case by case basis. Don't worry about opening your cube it isn't that hard, or "bad" to do so. I don't even think it has a warranty seal on it if ur worried about that but I forget.

i have a xenoed cube. originally my pot was at 130!!!
i was able to run all backups (ritek04 / cmc; written at 4x / 8x) with this, but e.g. fzero sometimes crashed after track selection... i dont want to go any lower, so i tried setting the pot to 185. still booting everything fine, played fifa some hours yesterday... gonna check fzero soon.
maybe the lower isn't always the better?

you will have to adjust the POT value, please read over this thread for how to do that.

Well, it looks like I'm gonna have to tweak my pot. All my originals run fine, but tried burning a backup to a maxell mini dvd and it just spins and SOUNDS like it's trying to load, like a dirty laser eventhough I just cleaned it. Now I gotta get me a gamebit and multimeter, fun joy...NOT
