Based on what you've posted, there are a few things that you may want to consider.

-The quality of your DVD burner.
-The burning application you're using as well as the settings used.
-The accuracy of the disc images you ripped.
-Any damage you might have caused to your laser by messing with the pot.

Sounds like you need to adjust your laser pot

    right i have a plan...

    1. gonna try the FstFix on the iso and reburn

    2. If that doesnt fix it, going to flash chip with Cobra 2.1

    3. Failing that, fiddle with the damn POT,

    yeah i have Ritek DVDs

    thanks for your help

found this article, http://www.iso420.org/ngc/vgce/index.htm Viper Extreme BIOS doesnt play backups out of the box, needs flashing with
Cobra BIOS or similar, seems strange that a MOD Chip doesnt play backups out of the box..?

Still, at least we know the solution now

that's why I love the softmod method, no need to even open my GC or flash anything. :)

unfortunately my inquisitive mind makes me take things apart, once it works, it does just work very well

qoob chips can't play back-ups out of the box either as they ship with a BIOS that can only boot originals and homebrew.

Anyway, try cleaning your burner's lens with one of those lens cleaning discs for DVD players catliquor. It may improve your burn quality, as I've had to clean mine several times after using it so much.

my burner is fine, (as far as i am aware) 360 Dls are fine, XBOX fine, DVD fine, just damn GC, when i put the disc in and use explorer in Cobra, it says "unknown format"

did you try reflashing your chip with the cobra bios? the viper chip doesn't play backups 'as-is', it needs to be flashed with a bios that DOES read backups. Read here http://www.iso420.org/ngc/vgce/index.htm

if your originals boot fine, but backups don't, I'd have to venture a guess and say that your pot needs tweaking if your burning on ritek g04's at 1x with imgburn.
