k how much is the geforce 8800? and the HD 3850 is $186(according to those websites)and the HD 3870 is $259 so. putting aside all cost and price, which one is better?
Sorry too barge in here, but I just placed an order for 2x 3870s, so I will be doing some benches on those when they come here. In the mean time, I found this: http://www.parkoz.com/zboard/view.p...sc=off&select_arrange=headnum&desc=asc&no=983 Its CF vs 1x 3870 in Crysis. (Couldnt find anything on the 3850, although there are some vids on youtube and they look pretty smooth.)
Videos on youtube are useless, I don't know why you bother. The resolution of most youtube videos is even less than standard TV res (640x480) and will never be higher. At that resolution, even an 8600GT could probably keep up. As for those graphs, the average frame rates show a big improvement from crossfire, but the troughs are fairly similar, so if you got juddery graphics with one card, you still would with crossfire. For the extra expense I think that's unacceptable.
Because it produces a better quality image, and has more up to date technology support such as Directx10.1 and Shader Model 4.1, which the 8800 series doesn't have. (No geforce for that matter). When newer games that come out start using these technologies in spring next year, if you have an 8800 you'll be left behind!
to be honest. the best card out at the moment in terms of performance is the Nvidia 8800GTX ultra. frame for frame. for brute strength this card cannot be beaten.
Nope, the 8800 Ultra. There's no such thing as a GTX Ultra. Performance-wise it is, but really it's a bit of a specialist card. I only recommend the 8800GTX or 8800Ultra to someone who upgrades regularly, and since those cards have been out so long, those sort of people would already have one. The HD3870 offers far superior image quality, so all the 8800GTS or Ultra re useful for is for running current games at a very high resolution. They are in no sense futureproof.
