when i was changing them i did not notice a difference. the other one were really noticeable.
now these setting effect input (vhs or any source in) and output (monitor or buring program) yes?
i going to swap out my monitor so see it the pic is any better before i make any final ajustment.i don't want to over compensate for a bad display.
i am in the process of getting a new vhs too

i swapped in a flat wide screen.the pix was the same until i used the white connector. that seem to clean up the picture quite a bit.

    more to come soon
    thanks

i have been real busy with party's( my bother kids,my moms). trying to fit everything in is tough. i got the monitor friday. played with it most of the night till 12.00,
the only thing is it has some kind of slow moving shadows that follow the people when there are moving fast.making its kinda blurry..
only noticed it on this monitor .i will get the model # when i get home i thinks its a 20"
    any thought?.

next:is the better vcr and back to the tapes.

you mention to read the whole web site but there was not much on this link
    http://www.cask-of-amontillado.com/pvr_tweak.html
am i missing it some how
i am real interested in the way processing takes place. from cable tv in - to when it shows up on the monitor. do you know how it works? or where to get the info i desire? what componets it uses too?

What I meant about reading the whole website was to go here:

    http://www.cask-of-amontillado.com/

From here you can access the various pages, some are informative.

The basics I understand is that the capture card has one mondo chip on it that takes the analog video & audio streams and converts them on the fly into mpeg format, Hardware encoding. Thats about as much as I know.

Re the monitor: the blurriness might have something to do with the refresh rate. Generally, the faster the refresh rate, the sharper the moving pictures. Also, DPI will make a difference too.

My lcd monitor only has one refresh rate, 60 hz. On my crt I run it @ 85.

    Hey born2ride,

I've got a thought about your monitor situation. How long is your cable from the computer to the monitor? Could you need a booster? Do they make a booster for video cables?

Yeah, I know how hard it is to find a VHS machine, it's a dying breed. The one I picked up is a JVC S-VHS Hi-Fi model #HRS2920. I picked it up for about $100 at a place called Nebraska Furniture Mart (huge place, had about 20 different dvd players but only 3 VHS machines).

I think it just affects your recordings. I've got mine set at that, but on mine it's the highest quality. If your setup has a higher setting, I'd say go for it. It might ugrade your image on your screen.

okay, so you say that you create chapters and such in nero vision, then save it to hard drive. do you save it as an mpeg (which, to my knowledge, is the only format it saves it as), or a disc image file? how can you then resize it with dvd shrink, since i've found it only works with DVD specific files (VOB, etc). please help!

::edit::i think i figured it out! thank you anyway!

Hi briansolo, welcome to AD if no one has welcomed you yet!

If you figured out that I use Nero Vision to make the menus and chapters which I then burn to hard drive as dvd files, YOU'RE CORRECT!

You then can use either Shrink or Recode to reduce in size.

    ok thanks
i have not used the tuner card in a while now which bring me back to and old problem after all. my screen display was not to clear but when i recorded and burnt to dvd it was clear this is not the case any more. now for some reason the ghosting images are in the dvd i played back on stand one player. leads me back to solving this problem. any though? its the same concern using mce or wintv now

born2ride, wintv2000 does have a full-screen option. you can either hit CTRL+T or the small button in the upper right corner of the window that says "TV Mode."

be careful, once in TV mode, do NOT hit escape unless you want the recording to stop! i made this mistake when i assumed you can get out of full-screen mode the same way you can with WMP. simply right-click anywhere on the screen to return to skin mode.

    hope this helps!

and hobbit, thanks for the welcome! what you explained is exactly what i figured out. thank you.

born2ride, thanks for the kind word.

i've had the card for a couple of months now, and it definitely does the trick! i'm still tweaking settings here and there, but it is a great tool. i hope you have many great returns from it!
