I have had a solderless matrix chip since 2003 in my xbox and I am tired of it getting mis-aligned and losing its programming. I also have a 120gb hard drive in the Xbox.

What is the easiest way to go from a hardware mod to a software mod? I would think it would be easier since I have ftp access to the hard drive already. Or, do I have to put the xbox back to factory status, then start the soft mod process using the tutorial thats stickied in this forum.

when the chip is taken out what happens.

If I were you i would put the original hard drive and take out the chip
and see if it boots up normal. From there try to soft mod then follow the upgrade hdd on softmod guide right here

Read my tutorials! They are laid out in a decent order to help you through each step!

Your best bet is to secure your eeprom now while the chip is running, then lock the drive with XboxHDM.
