I find you get a better deal on most used stuff on Amazon.com

granted you aren't going to find everything on Amazon.com but as far as Movies Games Some Computer Stuff and console stuff. I'd rather browse Amazon 1st than ebay....

in some cases if you spend a certain amount of $ on Amazon.. Amazon covers the shipping so it's well worth it if you find something you like...

    Example:
    AMAZON.COM
    PS2 Network Adapter $13.67 NEW condition + $3.49 SH Total $17.16

    Ebay
PS2 Network Adapter Cheapest one found $5.50 BID USED $12.44 SH
    Total $17.94

So even though the prices are close after SH Who's to say you will even win the bid at $5.50 and why buy something clearly USED from Ebay when you can buy the same Item Almost NEW from Amazon for alot cheaper and gaurenteed the price

Yeah Amazon marketplace is also a good trading place like eBay. Good thing about Amazon marketplace is that the only method you can buy and sell with is "Amazon Marketplace Payments". That way there's no way of someone lying and saying they havent payed you because Amazon deposits the money into your bank account.

What really gets my goat about ebay is all the phishing that goes on. People send you phony emails using the ebay link telling you: Somebody has tried to gain access to your account, Please enter information to verify if it was you!!!!

I'd get these 2 or 3 times a week. Even had an Email saying somebody in australia was trying to use my account, bogus!

Anyone who gets these phony emails,do not give account #s of checking and credit cards through those email links. I opened up one of those spoofs and they wanted my pin # to my visa card. Ebay does not ask for info for account numbers.Ebay doesn't even have my pin number.

Here's another thing that happened to me and I think I even started a thread on it last spring. Somebody used my ebay user name and posted a 67 camaro on my account for sale. Boy that ticked me off big time. Ebay f*cked up and gave him/her my user name and account when they listed their camaro. I emailed that dude/dudette a nasty letter and they took it off the listing.I then notified ebay about their f*ckup.I then had a heck of a time getting the fees taken off my account.

Edit: I found that thread, here it is:

I do all my searching for products through BIZRATE, you get good deals, you can check out the company before you buy, and all that other stuff that goes with on line shopping, I have never bought of EBAY or AMAZON and never will

    To add my two cents..

since i started buying and selling on ebay in 2002, ive never really had a problem with phishing or bad sellers (once but a quick email to PayPal and i got my $10 dollars back :p) Ive sold and bought probably over 200 items, and made a lot of money for a highschooler selling other peoples sports jersesys and yu-gi-oh cards. Although i agree, ebay is getting worse with the amount of mislabeled items and fake/stolen items it is still a great place to find obscure or hard to find items (or if your just plain lazy too :p). I have since stopped selling and buying because of my newfound love for newegg.com and buy.com for buying and because ive run out of things to sell...

ps: Sellers (myself included) raise shipping prices becuase ebay takes a percentage of every sale you make, but they dont count the shipping towards that perccentage, so...If you sell something for 1 cent and put 80 shipping, thats 80$ profit.

pps: Dont EVER buy Jordans off eBay, 98% are fake.

So that's why you see a $20 Dollar Item selling for $5 with $15 SH

makes sense but then it just makes people think they are being ripped off for shipping

My biggest gripe on ebay is shipping charges too. They're as out of control as the gasoline prices!! The only thing I buy on ebay are paperback novels. They're so much cheaper than the bookstore...if...you can find someone not wanting to rape you in shipping charges...especially if you find a good "lot." I've sold some books there too and I always use the calculate shipping charges (and don't add extra money to it like you can) in hopes that I'll have more buyers b/c they know I'm not ripping them off on postage. Everything else I've ever looked at has been crap so I just stick to my novels.

another thing i noticed is the seller WILL NOT leave you postive feedback after you pay for the item until you leave them postive feedback first ,which is BS since you pay for the item right away they should leave the feedback right away

actually, as a seller myself on ebay with 100% feedback score 300+ (so far), i have it setup to leave feedback accordingly AFTER my customers leave me feedback...i want to ensure my customers are happy with their purchase, so, i made it so my feedback is left AUTOMATICALLY after a buyer leaves it for me first...i used to leave feedback IMMEDIATELY for someone after they paid, but on my other account, some stupid kids would intentionally leave me negative feedback for no reason at all~! imagine this situation...the kid buys an item from me, pays within my allotted 72 hours time frame, i leave him postive feedback for payment, i ship out the EXACT item as pictured in my auction, brand new in manufacturers' sealed box, ship it Priority Mail, the kid receives it 2 days later, and then leaves me negative feedback? what for? with a feedback comment like, "i f*%ked ur momma last nite, she called me daddy! " now come on, i don't need to take this crap from little kids...i fulfilled MY end of the transaction and this is what i get? so HE has a positive and i get a negative for getting HIS item to him within 2 days time...??? so, that is WHY i no longer leave feedback first, i am more than willing to have an open line of communication with ALL my buyers if there is something wrong/ damage during transit, and i need to send them a replacement or refund or whatnot...but, i DO NOT believe in leaving feedback first, as the seller, since i do not want to deal with these little kids and their crap. i ONLY leave negative feedback to people that DO NOT PAY, otherwise, everyone gets a positive :)

so, aabbccdd, i do NOT find this to be out of line...reason being is, as a seller, you have to realize that there are some MORON AZZ kids out there that bid on ebay for fun, like it is a GAME to them..they have NO intention of paying, they are just messing around and bidding on stuff they WOULD LIKE to own, but, have NO money to pay for it...i had this happen on SEVERAL occasions...getting an email that went like, "thanks for letting me bid on your item, my mommy won't let me buy it now since she doesn't have any money on her, i'm only 14 so i am definitely interested, but maybe next time"...do you KNOW how mad i was at this BS???

naturally, i filed a non-paying alert (after 7 days time), only for him to respond to ebay with a "i don't have money, my mommy won't pay, ebay is fun, i like it more than my video games" ... so basically, i got bitch slapped with 1. listing fees, 2. final value fees, 3. a ridiculous message that made me crazy, the "kid" thought this whole thing was a joke~! that he played a "trick" on me and was laughing his azz off~

after some time had elapsed, i filed for final value fee credit and put this moron in my "blocked bidder list"...he is permanently BANNED from ever bidding on my auctions again...it's a real pain as lately this has become more prevelant for me...i get non-paying bidders EVERY single week now...i have heard ALL the reasons, excuses, lines anyone could possibly think of for non-payment, so i no longer give ANYONE the benefit of the doubt...

if someone bids and WINS my auction, and chooses NOT to pay, instant non-paying bidder is filed after 7 days, if that does nothing, i put a STRIKE against them and hopefully other sellers will follow suit and eventually get the fool banned from ebay. lastly, i give them negative feedback, to warn OTHER sellers of this idiot.

so, in conclusion, i went from being an excessive buyer on ebay a few years ago...to a powerseller NOW that deals with stupid little kids that think of ebay as a game...yes, i know it comes with the territory and EVERYONE deals with these "bad apples" now and then, but, im just SICK AND TIRED of these bidders that have NO intention of paying, but waste my auction for their amusement...

sorry for my rant there, but, as saugmon has stated about the crazy phishing that is going on...with these people sending emails to you/me asking to "verify ebay account", "need to update your cc info", "please verify paypal acct.", "your account has been suspended routing code @#$#@$#^, click here to reactivate"...blah blah...i get at LEAST 30 of these PER DAY in my sellers email account...it's ridiculous, there was even one where the guy said, "are you going to pay me for the item YOU won? i am not a fool, i am going to report you to ebay's safeharbor dept." LOL...i use my seller's account to ONLY sell, i NEVER buy anything...it just cracks me up...

anyways, guys/gals, be VERY careful about purchasing from ebay...whether you are here in the U.S., Europe, Australia, Africa, it doesn't matter, just be careful who you deal with, it CAN be risky, but, you CAN find some awesome deals if you look hard enough :)

I've got a blue star with a rating of 82 and 100% positive feedback. Way below your 300 kivory, LOL

Last feedback, may 14.2005 so it has been a while. Now i'm on dial up so getting through ebay takes me a lot longer.

    hehe, i have a teal star...it's purdy~ :)

but, GRRRR is right, so many spammers/phishers and so many little kids out there~ been getting on my nerves~

are you a seller or a buyer or both saugmon? if i were to buy something from you, you would leave me a positive feedback right? buyer confidence is of utmost importance~

LOL, or what if i bid on your item and NOT PAY, and then in an email to you i simply said, docTY is broke, no $$$...what would you do? LOL

anyways, just messing with you buddy, i sell on ebay EVERY single day, so, yes, in my free time, i keep alternating and refreshing the pages here on AD as well as My Ebay~ :)

kivory666...do you use the second chance offer when you get a non-payer? I used that before and it worked out nicely for both me, the seller, and them, they buyer. Just wondering.
What's your ebay seller name? Is it the same? Just thought I'd go and check out your auctions.

I got fed up with E-Bay about a year ago for the same reasons listed in this thread. Excessive shipping and poor quality merchandise in several deals. I started dealing with Ioffer.com. Similar to e-bay but if you see an item you want, you make an offer to the seller and they can accept or reject that offer. In most cases you can state seller pays shipping with your offer. I haven't purchased much there but was pleased with the deals I did make.

    @nlm

yes, i have taken advantage of the second chance offer option before, but, most times, the outbidded buyers do NOT bite, that's only for ME, other sellers might/probably have much better luck than me :)

i am what you would call "unlucky" in the luck dept. :)

and no, my name on ebay is NOT the same as is here on AD...it's actually my WIFE's name and account, so unfortunately, i will not be able to reveal it here... :) no advertising remember? hehehe

That may be a confidentiallity question. You can get people's email addresses by knowing what their ebay user name is.A simple ask seller a question and bam-you have their email address!

I was thinking about asking kivory666 about his,but I can't ask for his or give mine out.It may not be safe and someone could get bombarded with spam.
