hello, i am trying to uprade a starview 3 the box super with gtrom 8.04 but it is only allowing me to choose com port 3. when i try and use other ports i get the message "cannot open serial port, the system cannot find the file specified". If i use com port 3 the downloading window will appear but will not move from 0%. i have tried this in all four usb ports of my computer. Also i tried clicking on properties of the usb serial controller in device manager and it does not give me option to change com ports, the only tabs that show are general, driver and details. does anyone know what is wrong. Pleaseeeeeeeeee

hey thanx 4 reply. i have read this already and followed instructions. when i am in device manager there is no Ports (Com and lpt) option, however i can find the connected cable under £other devices - usb serial controller". this does not give me option to change ports. my cables do not require drivers either, i have checked everything again and again. do u know is there anything else that could b wrong?

If you are using vista, then the best thing to do is find someone with xp & flash it from their pc. Theres a major problem flashing boxes using vista.

Are you sure you`re using a null modem cable & not a RS232 cable?
If you have the correct cable, then the file should download on com port 3.

Heres a pic of the null modem cable, courtesy of HiTeck :

I have to head out now & if you`re still stuck theres always someone here to help. Best of luck.
