    Hey all:
I've got a good system w/ WinXP installed.

Good anti-virus software, etc but I get home today and I find that my comp is telling me that my "hal.dll" file is missing/corrupt.

I've run the recovery console from my Windows CD, and input

    copy e:\i386\hal.dl_ c:\windows\system32

Copies successfully. but then I reboot, and nothing has changed.

I read all this stuff online where it tells me to 'expand' rather than 'copy'.

    So I do:
    expand e:\i386\hal.dl_ c:\windows\system32\hal.dll

expand failed. It wont do it.

I also cant bootcfg /rebuild Errors occur.

So, why wont it 'expand' ? What can I do?

    THANKS SO MUCH.

Put in the windows XP CD and do a repair install on the whole Opperating system and that should fix the problem.
