but on some of my skins the wmv's play but when i put a wmv on to a disk on to the xbox and copy it to the xbox it wont play and it gives me a mesage Error failed to open______ file may be currupt or damaged.
but i can still just play it on my comp. it isnt corrupt or dammaged im shure of that.

what do i have to do to get it to work??

Do you have Xbox media center? It is the best for playing any media. Google it.

Thanks Skwyrl! I will just play the unmodded maps from the halo 2 disk. The only problem is if I ever want to mod one map twice with different mods I will want to have both on the list. I now have the halo 2 disc copied to my xbox hard drive (minus the campaign maps), now how do I play halo 2 from there? I’ll try changing the mainmenu.map later but I need to be able to run halo 2 from the hard drive first.

    Thanks for all your help!

For modr2b: Do you have the folders bink, maps and media, along with dashupdate.xbe, default.xbe, downloader.xbe and update.xbe (the maps folder should only have the maps you want, and the other folders should have everything in them ie: dont take anything out) How have you modded your xbox? Softmod or chip? I have it softmodded with unleash X as the dashboard, so I just put all the things above into the E/games/ directory, and it automatically finds the default.xbe and plays it. If yours is a little more complicated than that, go to where you have your halo 2 disk saved and just click on the default.xbe. That should run the game.

For shadow84: I havnt downloaded xbox media center to my xbox yet, but have all the files on my computer. If you dont know how to FTP to your xbox, say and i will explain, but i assume you do if you tried it once. Just take all the folders that make up the xbox media centre (credits, language, media, screensavers, scripts, skin, sounds, system, userdata, visualisations, web, and most importantly, the default.xbe - im not sure if you need the XML document, but throw it in for good measure-) FTP that all to your E drive in your xbox somewhere, and then just run the default.xbe. If you are using unleash X as a dashboard, just hold x and you can switch between unleash, the MS standard dash, and Xbox media centre.

Note: I did refer to two default.xbe files. they are both different files, but most things I have come across for the xbox are executed by a default.xbe file. Just to avoid confusion.

To shadow84: you can just ftp with Internet Explorer, all you have to do is type in ftp://xbox:xbox@YOUR XBOX’S IP ADDRESS. If you don’t know your xbox’s IP address go to system settings on your xbox and the second thing there says IP. That’s your xbox’s IP address. The xbox:xbox is the username and password default for the xbox. If it doesn’t work just check the system settings and confirm the password. Once you are in, you can just drag and drop folders to whatever drive partition you want (in this case the E drive).

To Skwyrl: a couple things (1) I have only the maps I want in the maps folder (I also put in mainmenu.map, shared.map and single_player_shared.map) and I copied all the rest of the folders and all their contents. (2) I got my xbox and didn’t know it had already been modded, it is probably modded with a chip because the screws have been taken out from the bottom (the warranty stickers have circles cut in them around the screws) but I am not completely sure, I know it is Evolution X though. (3) I can find the files though the xbox file browsers but when I click on default.xbe it comes up with a dirty disk error and nothing loads at all, I even bought a new halo 2 disk because my old one is pretty scratched and I retried the whole thing and copied the files from my new disk and put them back and I still get an error. I’m not sure what the E/games/directory does but I guess it probably does the same as clicking on default.xbe. I’m not sure what to do now with the error. Again, thank you for all your help Skwyrl.

No, you don't need any programs, from what I see you are just creating a separate on/off switch that just goes through the controller cord. If this has been said to work then I don’t see why it wouldn’t as long as you followed the instructions carefully. Make sure you soldered all the appropriate wires to the right places and make sure your solder didn’t short across any other things. Try reading through the instructions carefully again and just make sure everything is placed right, if it still doesn’t work I suggest looking for some instructions from another source and see if they tell you to solder the same wires to the same places.

P.S. Did you get the ftp working through Internet Explorer?

Modr2b: yea, that directory does the same thing as clicking the .xbe.Hmm, thats an odd one. When you bought the new disk, did you take all the files from the old disk off and replace them all, or only the default.xbe? Hmm, I got absolutely no clue, sorry. :(

Yah, I replaced the whole thing with the files from the new disk. I'll have to try on a different xbox I guess. I don't know why it wouldn't work. Thanks for helping me out Skwyrl!

Connect your xbox to your computer through an Ethernet hub or router (plug your computer and xbox into the same hub)

Use dvd 2 xbox to copy all the Halo 2 files to your computer (your halo disk must be in the drive but not loaded, change this option in the system settings, set auto load games to NO)

Now copy the halo 2 files on your computer onto your xbox by ftp (when your xbox is in the modded dashboard go into Internet Explorer and type in ftp://xbox:xbox@YOUR XBOX’S IP ADDRESS. If you don’t know your xbox’s IP address go to system settings on your xbox and the second thing there says IP. That’s your xbox’s IP address. The xbox:xbox is the username and password default for the xbox. If it doesn’t work just check the system settings and confirm the password.) then find the E drive, make a Halo 2 folder and drag all the files into there (try not putting in the campaign maps just yet because those take up a lot of space, if you have extra space after this you can try putting them in).

Now go to your xbox and find some kind of file browser, go to the folder that you saved the Halo 2 files and click on default.xbe. This should run Halo 2 right from the hard drive.

Now on your computer make copies of all the halo 2 maps and then with dot halo you can open them and mod them.

Go back to the modded dashboard and ftp again, find the map you want to mod on your xbox and replace it with the modded (and signed) map that you modded in dot halo. (I use the program ch2r to sign my maps, I think you can do it in dot halo but I’m too lazy to figure out how =P)

now when you play Halo 2 from your hard drive that map will be modded.

If there is anything that I left out or you don’t understand just let me know and I (or someone else here at afterdawn) will try to help you.

    HAPPY MODDING!
