I personally believe that the Arc is some kind of safe
zone located on the planet of Earth. The Forerunners,
whom I believe are the humans as well, left it on their
home planet in order too have a place to survive when all
the Halo's went off. Yes, I think that the Forerunners
wanted to destroy all life anywhere, except themselves. I
also think that there was a Halo near every solar system
(or galaxy, depending on the blast radius) in order to
destroy the Flood if the need came. Eventually, the
Forerunners decided that everyone must be killed, for
some reason, and detonated the Halo's. A few failed to
do their job, and those are the ones we have seen in the
Halo series. Als, to get rid of any evidence, the
Forerunners went about destroying each Halo. They left
the ones that didn't go off originally, as a precaution.
Then they found out that there were Flood harbored on
the Halos, and they needed to destroy them. Then the
Prophets came along and destroyed the Forerunners, and
kept the Halos there as a memory of there victory. Many
years later, as the Prophets began to die off, the
survivors found the Covenant races, and preached tales
of a great people, the Forerunners. The Halos were told
to be a sign of there power. The Prophets didn't tell that
they had destroyed the Forerunners, they made it seem
that they had died off. Then, the Prophets found
humans, and ordered them to be destroyed, so the lies
they had spread would not be exposed. That is why the
Covenant were so set on killing the humans, to obey the
Prophets, who had made it seem that the humans would
destroy and befoul the Forerunners holy ground. The
Prophets didn't know that the humans had no memery of
being the Forerunners. You see, the Halo nearest Earth
was one of those that had malfunctiones, so the Arc had
never been use. But then, when the Humans had
destroyed it, the device went off, and all died, except for
several, who were severely mutated, ala:the green blob
in Halo 2. There were also children left alive, as they
seemed immune to the blast. The kids were raised as
humans, not Forerunners. They had no memory of there
parents. Then the mutated ones left, taking up residence
on the Halos, and history as we know it happened. Then,
not long before the first Halo, when the Covenant
showed signs of anger, the mutated ones intervened,
and the Spartan program was instituted, in the hopes of
preserving the human race. Then everything in the series
    happened.

This is all purely speculation, by me, a bored kid, but it
gives a little bit of religious meaning to the Arc, hence
the name. Sorry for the lack of paragraphs, I kind of
started rambling. Give me some feedback!

Happy birthday! I just turned 13 as well.

Sorry for the double post, I just thought of something. I
din't read through all the posts, so some of my ideas
    may be similar to others.

And why did the Covenant not expect the Humans to be
on Earth? Because of the explosion. The Forerunners
must have thought that all life had ended at the time of
the detonation. Humans, they thought, were from
somewhere else (because the Forerunners didn't ever let
their homeworld be discovered.) But one of the Oracles
must have said something about the Arc, or a Prophet
had a revelation, most likely Regret, but the Covenant
didn't trust the lack of information against the majority
    of the Prophets' word.

Maybe, just possibly an Elite, the real Heretic, perhaps,
found out that the Prophets were lying, and they dd their
whole ciil war thing. The Grunts just had allegience to
the Elites, and the stupid Hunters and Jackal still
    worshipped the Prophets.

Of course, all this ties ino my other theory, so if you
hated that, then disregard this. I know my idea has plot
holes(rather large ones) but I had a lot of time onmy
hands today. I id did just make it up from scratch so be
    easy on your judgement.

The Halos are not weapons of the detonating type. They only destroy Sentient life, the life that harbors the flood. Nothing else but sentient life will work, so animals are not affected. The Hunters are not affected because: one, there are few of them, and two, because they are actually made up of symbiotic lifeforms inside the armor.
There are only, and have been only 7 Halo instalations, and they alone can destroy all sentient life. The halos were created to study and if need be, contain it.
as for your prophet theory, it is complete bs. the prophets and elites started the coventant, and they don't have a high enough level of technology to have defeated the forerunners. the forerunners destroyed themselves with the halos (although I don't believe completely destroyed)
And i think that they want the humans destroyed because they are jealous that they are favored by the forerunners (because humans are the only ones who can activate the rings).
That whole mutated thing made no sense whatsoever.
but the covenant didn't know humans would be on earth because they only knew the coordinates of earth, the covanant found a stone left by the forerunners which contained the coordinates, they didn't know that humans lived there.
the reason i think the prophets knew about he rings before they found them is because they found a couple of temples on the planets occupied by the races in the covenant.
If you look at the scene in the game, where the prophets are addressing the council, you can see that there are several of the prophet race, but the three main prophets (Truth, Mercy, Regret) are Hierarchs, the main leaders of the Covenant

And why wouldnt an animal be affected by the halos going off? Are they not sentient beings?

Now that I have had time ti think of why you dont see any Hunter-Flood forms is not because of the multiple symbiotic lifeforms, I think its because of the ammount of radiation emmited by the fuel rod guns the Hunters have Borenes Syndrome in which their body has so much radiation the the infection forms rarely get to altering the Hunters DNA.

only beings like humans and the covenant races are sentient

    sen·tient
    1. Having sense perception; conscious: “The living
knew themselves just sentient puppets on God's
    stage” (T.E. Lawrence). (dictionary.com)

(Darkreapr, good point, i forgot why Johnson couldn't be infected, and it makes sense that the hunters would have it too.)

Ahh I forgot what the definition for sentient was, I thought it was anything living which could feed the flood. Thanks NovusVir. :p

How do you no all this, NovusVir? Did Bungie disclose it?
I told you guys, I just made all that up. I didn't post it
because I thought it was true, I just thought it was a
good idea. I like to write, so maybe I will change the
wording around, and make it a plot outline for a new
story (I already have several 100 page ones), Anyway, I
am sorry if you took my posts too literally, and I would
appreciate it if you shared some more information that I
obviously missed somewher. I didn't read the books, I
don't research Halo plots, I just wrote. It s fun. So I do it,
and don't likeit when people flame my ideas without
coming up with better ones (or proof). So unless anyone
has anything positive to say, I will just delete the little
outlines, and say that I was wrong and I shouldn't post
my ideas anymore. Would that be good?

Oh yeah, and I didn't put that I thought the Halos were detonating weapons, I just lack ed a better word to use. It is clear to anyone who has played Halo that this is not the case.

I didn't read the books. So, give us non-readers some info on what we are missing. Please.

    EOD Guest

Well if they make it it wont be good and it wont be out for a while.

    NovusVir Guest

Well of course it won't be out for a while. But it could be good, the guy who's writing it also did the screenplay for 28 Days Later and the Beach, and I thought 28 days later was pretty good.
