A Centrino 1.7Ghz isn't all that bad, but it'll have integrated graphics, so Oblivion probably won't even install, let alone play. Same goes for most major games, Need for speed most wanted, FEAR, Doom 3, they'll all run very poorly.

Not really no, laptops are difficult to upgrade. You could look into it but it'd probably mean changing batteries, and it's not likely to be something you can achieve yourself. The cost just isn't worth it.

    Thats a nice laptop though!

If it had a good graphics card it would compete with some pretty top model ones!

Hm i wonder....is it possible to upgrade my laptop? Or am i in way over my head there....

If i had to get someone from a shop to do it, how much would it cost approx? to change the processor, and therefore probably motherboard?
Oh and also, im on the lookout the a silent fan? Do they even exist?

Cba to go into water cooling.

EDIT: I am also intrigues about this AMD athlon x 2 thing. I found this motherboard (AM2) http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/112169/rb/25784716864
And there are lots of the AMD ATHLON X 2 processors like:
    http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/122942/rb/25784838785

They have particularly caught my eye. I WANT IT!! ha ha. Are they compatible and everything people? Also, what kind of speeds could u compare it to....in ghz. :D Thanks peeps.

Hey chubby inc, sorry if i sound bashing here, but SHUT THE HELL UP!

You obviously didnt post in this thread to help, so why post at all. If you look, there are 7 pages of which i have discussed computer building with friendly aD'ers, and they have all helped alot.

i ALREADY have a laptop that i use now, i would have just liked to make an upgrade to make it faster, for your information. And what the hell are you talking about "all your ever gonna need"?? If you actually read it, i am building basically from scratch, cause the computer im working on is like 10 years old!

Why am i even explaining myself to you?

Sorry guys, forget about this post and chubbyincs...just concentrate on my last post :D

Laptops can be upgraded in limited areas, but if it's very old, getting a new one is probably the simplest option.

    Thanks sam :D
No, the laptop is a few months old, Intel centrino, 512 ram, dvd burner, 40gb harddrive, 1.7ghz..i was jst seeing how easy it would be to get a new processor.

What do you think to that athlon 64 dual core processor sam?

In a laptop? I don't know how good they are, but I'd still reckon a core 2 duo's a good bet in a notebook PC. I don't know how upgradable those laptops are, but suffice to say you won't get that much of a performance boost, the only sure thing is adding RAM.

No no mate. The processor is for a computer im working on, im thinking of getting it. what you think?

And about the laptop thing...if i was to make any upgrades to it, it would be a new processor, faster. But i think im just gonna make the computer first.

So again, the processor : http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/122942/rb/25784838785

    What dya think?

An Intel Core 2 Duo is better then that end wont cost much more it will completely rip that amd into bits.

    Oh right.

    :(

Well, the cheapest core 2 duo i can find is £152.

That one i just posted above is now £55.

For a first build its ok though right?
