Hi, my first time here after reading a recent thread about the same problem (except that was a 2006 version of this).

I have the WinAntivirusPro2007 stuck in my pc and have done the following per info I have seen in these threads.
I have also attached the log.

    Have done -
    - ccleaned th pc
    - did online scan vis bitdefender
    - downloaded Hijackthis with log below
    - downloaded ewido (avgspyware)- updated but not yet run/scanned
    - downloaded vundofix and scanned(BUT not yet clicked yes to remove files) depending on any answers (this is sitting on my desktop waiting for me to click it)

    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Geoff

Yes... have VundoFix remove whatever it has found.

    Rename HijackThis.exe to kota.exe.

Post the VundoFix log(C:\VundoFix.txt) and a new HijackThis log please.

    Show hidden Files/Folders.

[*]Close all programs so that you are at your desktop.
[*]Double-click on the My Computer icon (or click Start, then select My Computer)
[*]Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
[*]After the new window appears select the View tab.
[*]Put a checkmark in the checkbox labeled Display the contents of system folders.
[*]Under the Hidden files and folders section select the radio button labeled Show hidden files and folders.
[*]Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled Hide file extensions for known file types.
[*]Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled Hide protected operating system files.
[*]Press the Apply button and then the OK button and shutdown My Computer.

Search for and delete this File:

It looks like you don't even sleep !!

The pc seems to be behaving a lot better - no pop ups from the winantivus is a good start so far, no error messages either.

    so far so good.

I very much appreciate your help as if it was not for you and others like you there would be many of us doing a lot formatting all the time.

I think I will uninstall Kaspersky security (30 day trial) as it gives me a number of messages (some about .dll files etc) and I do not know whether to terminate, deny or allow - all too confusing.

    I might try Bitdefender.

Is there a particular forum about this side of things to check out (could see one that stood out).

    Again, thank you.
    Geoff

ps if you are ever in Aussie land I'll owe you some beers.

Could you post the log that Kaspersky creates... its possible there are some things that HJT and VundoFix didn't catch.

ok, but am finding it hard to find kasperskys log info.
there are reports but there are a number of different sections, so not sure which is which.

Do you know how to get the actual log?

Have you done a full system scan with Kaspersky? That would be the log I'm looking for.

I've done 2 but it keeps 'freezing' at 6% and then 3%.

There is an error in there somewhere.

So really not sure to do now.

The kaspersky forum has not really helped any.

    Any thoughts?

OK success (wiping the sweat from my brow)

Still can't see how to get an actual log with kaspersky but the report it spat is 35mb (under wordpad).
Thought this might be a bit big to copy/paste here.

It did detect the following though. If you want the 35mb just ask.

the rest of files (which there are thousands of them - well a lot ) all seem to have 'ok' next to them.

yell out if you need me to look for something in particular.

OK... KAV is flagging things in your System Restore and the VundoFix backup folder.

So you can delete C:\VundoFix Backups

Then reset your Restore Points by doing the following:

[*]Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
    [*]Click the System Restore tab.
[*]Check the "Turn off System Restore" or "Turn off System Restore on all drives"

Reboot your computer, follow the steps above, this time unchecking the "Turn off System Restore" and reboot.

That will purge all old restore points and create a new clean one if you ever need to fall back on it.

Should be good to go after that :)

Good morning KotaGuy (afternoon there I suppose), so good afternoon.

    Ok things are looking good.
Have done as you suggessted - all good.

Have done 2 pc scans with no virus/malware detected - also good.

However, the kaspersky main screen is showing 23 detected with 7 untreated.
    Do you think-
1)these are probably 'old' findings and therefore should 'neutralise' them (per kaspersky advice button).
2)you would like see a copy/paste of them
    or
    3) do a log for you using hijack this

    Thanks
