@ pazzini its been a while since i have had one at 50% hope to never see one that low..lol plus im still new to this and the rebuilder is something i havent tried yet. but something i should learn how to do. since i have been only doing the movie and none of the extras i dont get that low of %.
Usually you do not see that much compression with most movies, as they are not that long. But when you get the longer movies like KK, LOTR, and even Munich you might want to try another program. Shrink is okay if you use deep analysis and AEC quality enhancements, also Recode using the same method, but for the time it takes with these two programs you might as well add a little more and try Rebuilder it is an excellent addition for this highly compressed movies.
@ cincyrob Compression will only get that low with very long movies like King Kong, I.T, Lord of the rings etc,etc I do the same as you movie only with all my backups, after all it's the movie I want to watch not the extras. EDIT: damn your fast Arnibear
where can i get rebuilder from?ive tried recode a few times that take forever and year. not to fond of it but it has done a good job.
You can use the free version of Rebuilder along with the free encoders included which are HCEnc and AutoQMatEnc both are good here is a thread that will show you the comparison http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/343299 You can also use ProCoder2 Enc and CCE but both of these programs are pay. I have CCE Basic and it is 60.00. Available from Visible Light. You will need a free program called AviSynth which must be installed prior to installation of Rebuilder, also ProCoder2 and CCE should be installed prior to RB installation. http://www.avisynth.org/ Here is a guide on setup of the program and gives an excellent overview. http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?t=55302 DVD Rebuilder is the best freeware program I know for doing high compression movies. http://dvd-rb.dvd2go.org/ The freeware version will not do as much as the pro version i.e. not as much editing capabilities but you can use it and see how good the quality is. However be prepared to invest some time in your backup, the encoding process can sometimes take a couple of hours, vs. transcoding programs which are much faster.
I did King Kong with clone/anydvd combo. If I remember it was in the 50% range. Can't remember the exact percent but the copy came out good considering the compression. Like others stated I try to keep it at 70% or higher. I only burn at 4x speed. Jerry
thanks arinebear. i will get dvdrebuilder and give it a try. cant hurt anything. but i think my problem might just bet some as the song says. some dust on the bottle..lol get me a can a air and shot it once or twice in my players/burner on differnt subject, ive heard that you dont need to burn slower with the newer media that is out, some say it is worse off burning at the slower rate. i havent used anything other than 16x+r verbs which i have burned at 8x and twice at 12x. and about 2 dozen maxell002 8x+r half at 4x and the rest since getting the info on burning them at 8x thats what i have been doing at 100% success.. heck come to think of it the problem i am haveing is only with ym verbs..
I still burn at 4x but that is because that is all the juice given on my old NEC. But on my Plex's I will do 8x and they all are fine. In fact the Plextor does better at the 8x for the 16x write speed media, which is still half of what is called for. More than likely it is dust, but if you still have a problem with the Verbs slow it down and see what happens.
