I've been trying to figure out how to succesfully rip/burn DVDs for a couple of weeks and so far have had limited success. I'm running OSX on a powerbook G4. I've been using Mac The Ripper to decrypt the DVDs, DVD2oneX to compress them, and Roxio Platinum Toast to burn the files. I'm burning them with DVD player formated names, as DVD-Rom disks, with the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders on the DVD, and they burn ok, but then will not play in my computer or my stand alone DVD player. Strangely, If I Rip a DVD that is small enough to fit an a DVD-R without compression (hence, no DVD2oneX use), it works just fine. I've also noticed that when I click burn in Roxio Toast, it ads 2 files that I can't get rid of, a desktop D8 and a desktop D9 I saw the post on this topic, but these extra files don't seem to affect the playback of the DVDS that are not compressed. I don't know what I'm doing wrong, can anyone offer any advice?
Correction: I just tried playing one of the DVDs that I burned that did not require compression, and although unlike the DVDs that I compressed, while these will plaay in the DVD player to a point, they freeze or stop playing at random intervalls throughout the movie. When I try to play the DVDs that are compressed, the DVD player will not even regcognize the disk, I just get a "disk error" message.
Bad media. That is what happens when you get crap media but being TDK I can only think of a- Bad batch. Return them for a refund. b- They are fakes. Read this thread http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/96589 If you want to use 0Sex instead of DVDBackup I always set the output in the Fmt. pop-up menu to DVD Folders to get a VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders.
Hey Pinochio, if you use DVDInfoPro, can you give the Media code/Manufacturer ID of the TDKs you bought at Costco? Thanks in advance.
