So I made the necessary wire to connect the Original xbox's Phillips DVD drive to a PC. (the yellow wires connected to the red, black, and yellow cable)

The bios of the PC recognizes the phillips xbox dvd, the xboxdvd is set as slave and everything. But when I load up Ubuntu; the drives are not recognized and ive tried the unlocker(from xbox scene) and that didnt work. The unlocker doesnt recognize the drive either.

Anything I should do savvy, expert, xbox hackers?

Yeah.. sling it.. it's a philips drive. What does a proper pc dvd-rom drive cost.. £5?

As for the main problem.. the drive isn't sending it's ident down the ide cable, so it probably isn't powered.
