An HD-DVD or BluRay player will give you great, if not the best possible, picture quality from any source for your 720p/1080i HDTV.

hey specops, I have a Samsung 56" 720p/1080i set in my home. I own the Toshiba xa2, picture quality is amazing, I have the HD player set at 1080i, excellent PQ even on standard dvd discs. You will not be disappointed!
