HDMI 1.3 sound requirements?

    Which kind of blu ray player will i need? I already have a high end HDMI cable (i heard of hdmi1.3 cables but is that nonsense?). DO I NEED A SPECIFIC RECEIVER?

    All versions of HDMI are backwards compatible. The cable you have should work.

    You have a couple of ways to get Dolby True HD and DTS HD Master Audio:

    1. Let the player do the decoding and send the decoded audio to your receiver thru HDMI (any version will do) or multichannel analog.

    2. Send the undecoded soundtrack to the receiver usind HDMI (version 1.3 needed.)

    For choiuce #1 you could use an older receiver that doesn't do the advanced decoding.

    For choice #2 you need a newer decoding reciever.

    do most players decode Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD?
