I hav 2 files that i want to mux together to create an avi. One is a divx video and the other is mp3. I tried AVI-mux GUI 1.17.7, the file played well on my vlc player but it stopped 2 seconds after playing in my dvd player.

I tried playing the two individual files on my dvd and they played ok.

A couple of possible reasons I can think of off the top of my
head. Some players have difficulties if the resoluton is too
high, for example > 720 horizontal.
Secondly, some of the encoding options, like GMC, is not handled
    by many players.

Try Virtualdub to mux the elements.

I figured out what my problem was. My mp3 was compressed with VBR. So i compressed it to CBR. Then mux them with VirtualDubMod. It played well on my dvdplayer.

Good find. VBR is another of those variables,
some dvd players handle them just fine, my own does.
