I've wasted about 5-6 blank dvd-r trying to burn two movies. I've tried to burn The Usual Suspects and Breakfast at Tiffany's both ending in failure.

This is what happens, I load up the movie and back it up to a folder in DVD shrink. It says it removes the protection. Then I would go to Nero 7 and try to burn the DVD-Video but it stops at about 28%. This happened on like 4 discs, the same spot.

I then tried using DVD Decrypter. It ripped the movie as a very large file. So I then had to use DVD shrink again to reduce the size to fit on DVD-R.

But once again, I try burning in Nero and it doesn't work. It at least got to 40% though.

    Someone help me!

I use these DVD-R called Mr. Data that burn at 8x (i've been burning at 6x though) and they have worked before on other movies I burned.

Also, here is my error log.

DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter have NOT been updated for some time. The two titles you mention should backup easily...unless they are new releases with different Encryptions installed.

Rip a title to your HDD using FAB HD Decrypter...find it HERE. Once the freeware app has done it's stuff, then OPEN the files with DVD Shrink and burn with Nero or IMG at no faster than 8X speed. Best to use 4X speed with less than "good" media.(TDK or CMC etc although TDK's aren't too bad)

ok, i've tried the roxio remover.

As for using DVDfab, I've used it before with Usual Suspects a week or two ago and it had the same problem I am having with Breakfast at Tiffany's.

I've also updated the firmware of my dvd burner to the most recent Dell one.

Here's the new log report with roxio removed.

i thing i would suggest now is try different media like verbatims or taiyo yuden or sony's.

are using TDK? TDK are not bad but not as compatible verbatims and Taiyo Yudens

OKAY! I got it. I used DVDfab and dvd shrink afterwards. And then I slowed down the burn speed.

So I don't know EXACTLY what did it. My guess is the speed. It's really weird though because I used to burn it at 6x. I went down to 4x.

Thanks a lot for your recommendations. You guys are the best.

6X is a strange multiple of the speed ratings for which the discs are designed: 2.4X/2X; 4X; 8X; 16X. The Toshiba/Samsung drives are among the slowest to update firmware or include a wide variety of discs in their firmware settings. I suspect that slowing the speed down to 4X is what did the trick: the reduced speed allowed the laser to use a power level that fell into the wider tolerance curve for jitter.

Having both Nero and Roxio on the same drive was also a problem, but it appears that you removed Roxio and fixed that. InCD and DirectCD packet-writing programs on the same computer are bound to screw up formatted rewritable discs in just about every case because one or the other tries to write over the other's format when a rewritable disc is inserted into a drive. That corrupts the disc, often permanently.
