What bout the RAM would faster RAM be much better, or would I be better off overclocking the KingMax ones If they can be?? PS - Which of the cards would be best on a budget
I'd recommend Corsair PC6400 above anything else, Corsair PC8500 if you're overclocking. Freezer 7 Pro CPU cooler normally, Tower cooler if you're overclocking (namely,Tuniq Tower, Thermalright Ultra-120 or IFX-14, Noctua NH-U12, Scythe Ninja or Xigmatek 1283 (assuming you get the retention bracket for the latter)
So corsair is the best ram wouldn't a normal cooler work with o/cing beacuse I'm not too sure about finding "towers and retention brackets" here :S and switching both around, might not even build it myself never done so before, might give it to a shop guy
Not the stock cooler, not very well anyway, a normal decent cooler like the Freezer 7 Pro or Coolermaster Hyper TX will do, but won't overclock as well as the towers.
ok I'll see what I can find. PS- Which Budget cards would best fit my budget?? The stroe guy was offering an XFX 8800GTX with 640MBDDR3 I think it was xxx edition for 1700 (450) which is 730SR more thatn the point of view one ;( Which one should I choose, and which other ones are good
OK - PS can the VGA be overclocked And which motherboard would you recommend? And what about this case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129042 I read about it in total PC Gaming and really like it. Thanks??
The Antec 300 is alright, but it's not as well cooled as the other cases mentioned. Graphics cards can be overclocked, but not very much. How much depends on the card but you're looking at between 2% and 12% increase in performance typically.
Which mobo would you recommend? it must have enough slots for a modem, a wireless card, and a sound card Thanks PS- Which is better the andec or the gigabyte?? Thanks again
The Antec 300 is probably better for cooling, realstically, but the Poseidon is a nicer designed case, so your call really. If you can still find it for sale, I'd recommend the Gigabyte P35-DS3R motherboard.
I'll keep an eye out for it, I'm thinking about getting a sound card, what is the advantage of having card compared to built-in??? Which one would you recommend for my budget
For games, it means you can turn the sound quality up to full and not get any missing sounds, which sometimes happens in hectic scenes with onboard sound. You don't need anything expensive to get the job done though, something like the Audigy SE will do fine.
Ok thanks I think I;m ready to go. I'll probably go tonight Is it better to have an internal wireless card or a usb one
so on average how good do you think this rig wiil be. Will it be able to play demanding games on high at a res of like 1440 x 900 I have games like crysis, assassins creed, grid, quake wars, and such lined up. How will it rate against them roughly
With an 8800GTX (as long as it's the real one with 768MB of memory) it should be able to play almost anything at at least 1680x1050.
If it has 512MB of RAM it's not an 8800GTX, so I suggest you try and find out what it actually is. Could be any of the following, in ascending order of performance: 8600GT 9500GT 9600GT 8800GT 9800GT 8800GTS G92 9800GTX 9800GTX+ The 8800GTX 768MB sits between the 9800GTX and 9800GTX+ in performance. As long as you have one of the bottom five in that list, it will perform well enough to run all games on highest detail at at least 1680x1050, with the possible exception of Crysis during the latter half of the single player.
What about the life of the rig?? If I build a desktop I want to make sure that it will last me at least 4/5 years with minimal upgrades during that time Do you think this will let me do that, and future games, even if the resolution is lower??
I couldn't possibly say, but if you want to play current games, going 5 years without an upgrade is impossible without using cutting edge technology, and the 8800GTX is now two years old and has been eclipsed by newer technology like the GTX200 series and HD4870s.
