    Hello all,
I'm new to the forum and I have a problem. I am trying to back-up a dvd (Step Up 2). I followed the guide here in the fourm and I used DVDFab Decrypter then Fixvts then DVD Shrink to an ISO file. I then tried to burn using Imgburn, DVD Decrypter, and Nero 8 but halfway through the writing process I get error messages. I'm using a toshiba laptop with Vista 32 bit. I don't know what else I should put here. My error message is

    I/O Error!
    Device: [2:0:0] MATSHITA DVD-RAM UJ-850S 1.40 (D:) (ATA)

    Scsi Status: 0x02

If anyone could help me I'd really appreciate it. Thanks :)

Can you post the entire burn log from imgburn. Also, nero 8 has been known to be problematic. I did this movie using my standard process, as you can see in this thread.

    http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/683671

I'll also check with a few other members who have vista, and may be able to help you better. I have xp (media center 2005 actually) and had an easy time with this one.

Sounds like either a burner problem or media problem. Soooo try an external burner and change media ( I use only TAiyo Yudens)

Oh, I forgot to mention that this error message is from Imgburn using an external burner. I used Sony DVD/CD rewriteable drive.
    Thanks for the help.

Slow the write speed down. Burn at 6x or 8x max.

I would turn off the verify disc setting and see if you truly have a good burn as the log states:

I can see an issue with the ability of your drive to write to 16x media. it was only a 4X DVD+-RW drive to begin with and the 4x drive that I have left won't even recognize 16x media. Shame as it's a Pioneer 106D. Great writer and has over 1000 burns....

I've used quite a lot of CMC MAG AM3 media and it at least will burn on EVERY burner that I have except for said drive above. ;) I haven't tried DAXON media at this time but I'm sure if it's available in the states I'll get it at some point. ;)

Try to find some 8x or 4x rated media and if that's a problem look to some NEW f/w if possible and if that's an issue a NEW drive can be had for less than $25 delivered in the states!! :D

Okay, so we've got an ancient burner with 4x capabilities, crappy bottom-of-the-barrel blank media all while trying to burn at max speed?

    1. Get a Lite On from newegg.com or tigerdirect.com (shipped for $30 or under:) )

    2. Get some good blank media while you're shopping.

    3. Burn at half the rated speed of the disc; or 6x to 8x max.

    4. Enjoy good quality backup copies!

Yeah I gotta agree with 7thsinger and greensman. You got old drive X4 and the media is suspect. newegg.com great place for cheap DVD drives. This week just got NEC Optiarc AD-700S ATA shipped $26. I think greensman also told me the IDE interface same drive was $21 don't know if shipping included. I've also ordered a Lite_On LH-20A1S ATA. Both working fine and under $30.

Edit: Now start over and develop some new and improved dvd burning habits! Slow it down to half the rated speed, then you can increase as you get better. You even be able to do them on the fly without problems.LMAO
