I downloaded some movies that were converted to avi from vhs I think. Anyway I use cucusoft avi to dvd converter and for some reason the picture is distorted when I convert to dvd. How do I remove the Macrovision from the avi file before i convert it to dvd format?

Macrovision (analog protection) would have to be removed before the video was captured (as digital).

Does the source AVI file play ok on the PC?

Try another converting program like FAVC or DVD Flick.
They are free and work well.
